Hello everybody,
What is a good source for EP Fibers?
Martin,
You can get it from lots of places on-line (Feather-Craft, Cabelas, EBay, etc) and prices will be comparable. A bit of a controversial point here, but I really like Congo Hair carried by Fly Tyer’s Dungeon http://www.flytyersdungeon.com/ I have found no difference in tying with it, like the color selection and it’s a heck of a lot cheaper than EP Fibers. I’ve had pretty good luck dealing with the owner, but a few of the shipments took a bit of time to arrive, despite prodding; the guy is a one man operation and at times appears to be overwhelmed. Others here have had less satisfactory results; if you need it in a hurry, you may be disappointed, if you have time, you may want to give it a shot.
Regards,
Scott
The best source of fibers is from an EP. Unfortunately EP’s aren’t in season right now.
I like to wait til late fall, early winter. That’s when the EP fibers come in to their best and get nice and fluffy.
Thanks everybody, I’m not going to have to buy them on line, my local fly shop has the color I need.
Save yourself a bundle. Congo Hair wiil give you virtually the same results at 1/4 the cost.
I second the congo hair. Amazing stuff, easy t use, and very cheap.
Congo is awesome as are several other products offered… and you get a really nice hank…!
I think that Scott summed it up very well. Congo hair is less expensive and is a nice product. If waiting two to three weeks isn’t an issue for you and you absolutely understand that the owner of the flytiersdungeon will NOT respond to any emails no matter how many you send it might be an OK product for you. I choose to do business with people a little more responsive for my own voting with my dollars. I work hard for my money and expect a certain level of service. I found their customer service to be the worst that I have come across on the web and is not acceptable to me. I’ve ordered directly from other countries on Ebay and received product faster than this guy serves his customers.
These guys do a good job and the owner is customer service oriented: http://www.jsflyfishing.com/cgi-bin/category/65200 There are many other places around. This is just my opinion and yours may vary, but I would give the flytiersdungeon and big F for customer service myself.

The guy at Fly Tyers Dungeon does the whole operation by himself from what I’ve heard. He does have some great stuff, at a good price. I bought a bunch of leg material from him recently, and got very prompt service. Certain times of the year he is swamped, and is not good to try to order right before Christmas. Order earlier than you need it, and you will be fine.
Not much meat on them though. Can’t even make broth.
:-p
That’s true, lepomac, but it’s good to keep the population thinned out a little or they take over, so you can chuck a couple in the pot and not feel guilty.

This might work for you and it’s on sale: http://www.bobmarriottsflyfishingstore.com/detail.aspx?ID=46857
Of course ya’ can make a broth… a classic “clear” broth! It just lacks much flavor.
