Mark,

I say it as — Flathead Mayfly

Larry —sagefisher—

Here is the method I use: Mouse over and copy the word Heptageniidae from your post.

Go to the Google web page and mouse across the tool bar to the drop down menu “More”. Select “Translate”.

Select English above the box on the left and paste Heptageniidae that you copied in the box.

Now in the right lower corner of the box you will see a speaker icon appear. Click on the icon and you will hear the word you posted in the box. (speaker on?)

You can also select from approx. 60 languages (even Latin) you’d like to hear the english word if you click the “From box menu” and select another language.

Hep - Ta - Jen - EE - i(short “i”) - Dee. Last syllable can also be Day, both are acceptable.

None of the correct scientific names are difficult. Simple Phonics.

Exactly correct, although I learned to pronounce idae as iday, not idee.
All animal family names end in idae. Ex. Canidae, Mustelidae, Hominidae, Salmonidae, etc.

Now for a tougher question … How do you pronounce Jszymczyk?
