I was given some emu feathers recently. They look like they would make some great legs. I came across an article on tying with emu feathers but cannot find it now that I have some! Does anyone have any resources / patterns on tying with emu feathers???
Thanks!
wouldn’t they be just like ostrich? if they are, you should be able to tie them in as a sub for them. haven’t actually seen a herl of it - but was told that they are like ostrich… what about nymph bodies and legs?
I’m sorry if I’ve got it wrong - only passing on what I was told. you can cyber kick me in the shin’s if I’m wrong hehehe

use them to tie some wooley buggers they swim great!
Use it instead of peacock herl, it works great and not so flashy.
Emu feathers are fun to tie with and can be used in many ways. They accept dye easy and are fairly sturdy. Here is a link to a site that has several patterns that use Emu: http://search.freefind.com/find.html?id=3528604&pid=r&mode=ALL&query=emu&t=s
Here is a picture of one of my favorite Emu patterns:
I might try this… Do you use them for the body, tail, or both?
That site that has several emu patterns are great! Just what I have been looking for - thanks so much.
I use a few wraps of emu for legs on a foam beetle fly.
Emu is a neat feather.
Very different from ostrich.
