Thank you again, LF and JC!!!

Golly, gee whiz, holy mackerel and WOW !!!

Built by Betty Hiner FAOL 07 . How cool is that?

Well except I’d have put: Built by HRH Betty Hiner FAOL 07.:stuck_out_tongue:

Betty what weight is that rod and have you got to fish it yet, and if so what do you think of it?

I’ve been considering buying one of the completed Elkhorn bamboo rods.

Bill,
The Elkhorn blank is a 7’6" 5#. It casts like a dream! I finished it right after it was given me (*re:FAOL inscription), and fished it. It looked OK in the light of my table, but when I got out in the sunlight, I saw so many flaws in my work … I was embarrassed to have anyone see it ( oh, OK … so I’m OC and AR!!!). I just completed stripping it all down and totally reworking it (told you! OC/AR) and will be taking it with me to the fish-in. It’s a dandy rod! And I would highly recommend them!

GBF … at the time I received this blank, I was still only known as Betty Hiner. The HRH was awarded me at a later date. Any rods built after that date will carry the HRH designation!!

That is a wonderfull piece of art you have there. i love the Blonde bamboo, and the scarlett wraps. Hope my next one is that nice.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice, Betty! That’s art!

You mean I STILL have a chance one day to own an original “HRH Betty Hiner”?? How much fudge, money, begging, etc will one have to bestow upon your?

Beautiful work Betty! Thanks for sharing the pics.
Mike

Betty,

Rod looks great. Where did you get the blank and what do they cost? Do they come with the ferrules already mounted?

Dave

Dave,
I was the fortunate winner in the August 07 FAOL drawing, so mine was a gift from FAOL and Elkhorn rods (a sponsor on FAOL).

They can be purchased from Elkhorn rods. They are pre-finished so all you need do is seat the reel seat and grip, set and wrap the guides and finish them. The ferrules are all ready set. The listed cost is $350 for the blank. The additional “parts”; reel seat, grip, guides, sock, and tube, can also be purchased from Elkhorn, very reasonably. The reel seat I used was from a different source, as I wanted something really over the top … and then had it engraved!!

If you’ve ever finished off a graphite blank, or if you haven’t, you’d be able to finish off the bamboo.
Betty

looking forward to seeing it at the Fish-In. I did cast some at a Fly Fishing Show and was really impressed. Looks like a terrific job Betty!

Pretty nice tomato stake ya got there, honey! Now let’s see you catch a gill or two at the MIFI.

Nice. It made me laugh when I saw you chose the same colors for your wraps as I did when I tied my Elkhorn 'boo blank.

Obviously, great minds think alike!!!
