Electric razors are THE BEST for spun hair heads…such as muddlers. its fast, and it can give you a nice…smooth…even…and any shape you like head. i have never been able to get a nice taper with scissors/razor blade, but after i use the 'lectirc, it looks so smooth and tapered. it is THE BEST muddler minnow i have ever tied. :D:D:D:D
And what style would it be …brand…etc…[e.g.Norelcos and Remingtons are quite different] :?:
Dsaavedra,
I’ve got the same question as Ducksterman, which brand works so well?
BTW, is it the same razor you shave with or did you buy a spare.

I use a cheap battary powerd beard trimmer, it works realy well for me and it was only 10 dollars.
Ghost
yes. its a cheap batterey powered one. the brand is Wahl. its my dad’s, but i took it. its just a trimming razor. but i would think any of them would work equally as great!
so…how does Dad feel about sharing a razor with a deceased deer?
So Brad, you never felt that there were things your dad really didn’t need to know?
he never uses it i dont even think he knows i have it :?
I was just about to post another thread and ask where to buy double-edged blades to do this very job.
So do you think the little battery powered trimmer works better than a double-sized blade?
Diane
I do think a battary powerd beard trimmer work better then a double edged razor for trimming and it safer too.
Ghost.
Diane…there are other good uses for the double edged…like cutting rabbit strips.
They can be a little hard to find now…I have found them occasionally at Dollar Stores but most consistently at Wal-Mart…haven’t looked lately though.
yes. The mustach and beard trimers that are recharable work great for this . And if you have a rotery vice it works out even nicer .
the nice thing is they dont cost alot enymore
you dont need a realy fancy one
I have a “Sunbeam” brand and it works just fine. It is an electric home haircutting kit I got at one of the dollar stores for about 7 bucks. I bought it for the purposes of trimming deer hair but spinning is a pain for me. Nonetheless, it works well on the few I have tied.
Seems like the consensus is positive…anyone out there used one and not liked it?
gqualls,
I used to have trouble with deer hair until I watched Chris Helm’s video, Spinning Deer Hair. It’s one hour long, and after watching it you learn all the basics needed to stack and spin deer hair. I watched it twice before attempting to apply his techniques, and two weeks later taught a class on tying the Zoo Cougar. It was like an epiphany for me. He really takes the mystery out working with deer hair, and I now look forward to building flies with deer hair. Chris’ website is http://www.whitetailflytieing.com, and he has an online catalog.
Good Tying
Joe
And I have his video on the " Things For Sale" forum…
Diane,
I get my double-sided razors at both CVS and Walgreens. That and scisors is all I use for trimming deer hair.
Regards,
Alberto
I most definitely do…it just struck me as being really funny.
Why dont you check those CVS and Walgreens stores for an electric trimming razor? im telling you…after use one…you wont want to go back to a normal razor blade ever again.
EVER!
dsaavedra,
One thing I like about the double-edge razors is that I can bend them and use the resulting curve to shape the heads and bodies of flies very easily. How do you accomplish that with a beard trimmer? Which kind of trimmer are you talking about? Is there a link to a picture of one?
Regards,
Alberto
