But a little confusing since Marinaro’s hackling technique is meant to copy the footprint of a mayfly on the water. An egg laying caddis would have a different footprint.

If you look at the Caddis insect upside down, I think this hackling method imitates that. In addition, this method gives good stability.The Caddis legs are ?front loaded?, and the palmered hackle, on say an elk hair, don?t imitate that very well.
