Okay guys, I’m back…time to liven this salty stuff up a tad. For those of you that know me, sorry.
For those of you that don’t, my home waters are Mosquito Lagoon, Indian River and the St. Johns River (fresh).
I’ve retired from guiding, but that doesn’t keep me from slinging golden flies at redfish, snook, trout and tarpon over here on the east coast of Florida. I’m now managing The Fly Fisherman here in Orlando after I retired from my real job.
Little reporting: Tarpon are in the Mosquito Lagoon right now up to around 80 lbs, and of course, the reds are hitting early and late when the water cools off a little.
Two weeks ago, I had a speckled trout hit “at” the fly that, according to my son in law, was around 32"…seriously. The big gals are here.
I’m hoping to get out Sunday morning with my new rod if it comes in today (keep yer fingers crossed). I finally sprang for a Sage TCX 8 wt with the 6080 Sage reel. It will be rigged with a Rio Bonefish line…love that stuff!
No matching Sage Equator Taper flyline ? After a couple of whipped loops one measured as a #9 @ 240 grains instead of an #8. After seeing the pic of the red you caught on the staff of the shop, had to look twice because I wasn’t sure which was the older of the 2 reds that got caught !:lol:
Ah, you funny man, Dave! HAHAHA!
Sage ain’t a bad line, but I really loke the Rio Bonefish…my new TCX and 6080 Sage reel just arrived here at the shop, and she’s been rigged and ready!
Great picture ! Looks like 2 reds dressed in their color coordinated & matching Sundays’ best like fish out of water ! There’s grandpa & the youngin’ ! Looking good, Flats ! LOL ! http://www.flyfishermaninc.com/OurStaff.html
Well Flats, its been a while. Hope all is well with you. I too haven’t been here much with a new job, other responsibilties etc. Glad to hear things are going well. See you around.

Hey ya Jed! Yep, things are goin’ great. Good to “see” ya!
Yeah, Dave me and that old redfish planned that!
Since that’s the way you practice your beliefs in natures house, we’re all ready for more of it ! Always wondered, since we first met if you were secretly a professional Florida fish-caller…;)
You guys continue to keep them on the up and up in the southern regions and I’ll do the same up here. Fishing’s been good to me up here. Salmon, Stripers and Brookies all came to the net in nice size and adequate quantity. All I need is more time.

Dang, Dave! That was never supposed to get out. But kinda like dawg callin’, it don’t do much good when they don’t come!
It hasn’t been too bad here either, Jed. I have Mondays to fish now since the shop is closed Sunday and Monday. I just hate going on Sunday, though. Way too many people over there.
With 2 Sages in hand & a Rio in the air; sure that special golden bendback fly will land on the saltwaters right where you called the fish to ! Enjoy
Dang windy here…didn’t get to go break in the new TCX!
Maybe Ana won’t dump too many tropical rains on that side of the state so this weekend, after some preliminary false casting practice; the fish will be as ready as you will be ! Don’t want to be overcasting or undercasting with the new fly rod.
