Easiet fly to tie

Spectrumized dubbing fly is about as easy as it gets (other than thread midge). It’s just dubbing on a book. Adjust size and colorto imitate most nymphs, scuds etc. The only challenge, and its a fun one, is to make up killer dubbing blends of your own formulation with a dubbing blender.

Hans,

Heh heh, I must disagree. You’ve identified the easiest pattern to use but the question was to identify the easiest pattern to tie. Loosely defined and unless you disagree, to ‘tie’ a fly, is to somehow apply something to a hook other than the termination of the line.

Allan

Allan,

I will humor you.

Sometimes the Bare Hook Nymph is embellished by wrapping a copper wire thorax.

Will that pass your muster?

Cheers,

Hans,

Like most things, I either have it backwards or upside down

Thanks

Allan

Hans,
If you just put the hook in a vise wouldn’t that qualify??;]

British Yarn nympth
Size 10-18 scud hook
Olive thread
Olive yarn
old comb
A very cheap easy fly.

Start thread at hook eye work back to hook bend. No need to get fancy just a rough base of thread. lots of bare hook is ok.

Tie in Yarn and advance thread back to hook eye.

Wrap yarn from hook bend to hook eye forming segmented body.

Tie off at hook eye yarn with yarn at the top of the hook. Half hitch twice and cut off thread.

Fold yarn back over top of hook and cut yarn about 1 and a half times the hook length to form shell back and tail.

Take yarn tag and comb out fibers using the old comb or an old tooth brush

Fold back combed out fibers over the top of the hook to make the shell back and the part that goes past the hook will become the tail.

Tie in thread at hook bend and half hitch in tail and shell back to the hook at the hook bend.

Trust me it sounds harder then it is.
Sorry no photos at this time

as easy as this
bare hook nymph with wire AND
wait for it …
fur - so it’s am emerger.

This fly took 54 trout before being retired to the museum

Where do u guys find these trout? I dont think i could catch a stick on a bare hook fly, let alone a fish.

Tight lines,

Chris

““Where do u guys find these trout?””

i usually find mine about twelve feet upstream on a small brook in Ireland

I think the Too Simple Elk Hair Caddis is pretty simple… if you look at the begginers fly tying secton of FAOL… they start out fairly easy and work thier way up. Did you start tying PAflyfisher?

Brad,

I am still waiting to take a class. Plus I don’t have any tools.

Does anyone want to donate old/unsued tools to a poor newbie fly tier to be?

Thanks,
Chris

Any one who has tied a Green Weenie vote for anything else?

I think we need to think about who might be tying the flies we are talking about. Not everyone can tie some of them as fast as others can, Like the midge that I talked of. You have to remember that a small fly takes less time do to the size of the hook. To me it can’t be much easier than that fly.
Start your thread behind the eye of the hook with about 5 wraps. Now lay the tip of your wire in at this point and wrap the thread down the hooks shank and back up. You have tied the wire in and covered the hooks with the thread. Now take about 5 wraps of wire up the hook shank and tie it off and you are done. Maybe takes a minute to a minute and a half tops?
The vise used may play a part in this to. If you are tying a fly like the Green Weenie and if you have a Nor vise it will be real fast. Ron
