Early August 2021

Grass Carp…it what’s on my radar. Having had a good year with them so fa(apart from a whole month during “prime time” when the creek was flooded out and unfishable), I plan to see how many Grass Carp I can catch with the fly rod this year. Currently sitting at 53 for the calendar year. 35 of those were caught during 4 trips over the past 11 days.
Here’s a couple decent recent ones:

Caught 7 more Grass Carp today, bringing the annual total to an even 60.
Sizes were varied. This one might be my smallest yet:

Most were this size or a bit smaller:

I lost a BIG one. Bummed about it, but oh well.
This was the biggest one of the day:

34" 15 lb+ fish from last night (also caught 2 smaller ones and lost another at the net):

Now that 34 incher is a heck of a grass carp. Good job Dave.

Thanks Dennis!

If a Common Carp can be referred to as the “Golden Bonefish”…How about Grass Carp can be the “Missouri Mahseer”?
Be forwarned…I’m gonna use it! :stuck_out_tongue:

Missouri Mahseer…Still my top choice. Or how about Goliath Grass Grouper? Veg Tarpon? Pruning Permit?
Other suggestions? Missouri Missile? Finned Phantom? Silver Torpedo? Ozark Amur? oooohhh…“Veg Vacuum”?
