What are the gold stars and the gray stars in the threads? And where do they come from? OK, that’s two dumb questions for Wednesday!!
I’m guessing there are only gold stars(reader’s rating of the thread) and no grey stars. The grey stars are just unfilled gold stars.
4 gold and 1 grey are just “4 gold stars”
Look up at the bar above the first post on a page. You will see “Rate this Thread” Click on that and a drop down shows and allows you to “Vote” on a thread, rating it with 1 to 5 stars.
We normally do not rate your threads because it is a given that all of your threads are 5 star threads (sucking up to be forgiven for the caterpillar poop comment.)
OK … s’plain to me then … You gave this one four gold stars and one gray star to equal four gold stars to show me what they are? Where’d you get them??
I gave you 5 stars as you deserve. Just above your original post. To the right. “Rate This Thread” Click. Pick one.
it right here
Thank you. I was just getting ready to do that.
I know what’s coming next…heh, heh…
Cheers,

Just as an experiment, I went to Panfisha’s thread on the Fixed Blade, which had no rating, and gave it a three star rating, which shows up as three gold stars and two gray stars.
Hope Panfisha doesn’t mind my using his thread for the experiment ??

You guys are SOOOOO helpful! I like the arrow thingie!
Just how do you do the screen shots with the arrows. That’s what I want to know…
there is a “print screen” button on every keyboard. it says “prtsc sysrq”. i use that to print the screen and it goes on the clipboard.
i then open a photo editing program and bring in the item on the clipboard. add some text and the arrow and voila! save it as a jpeg, load it to photobucket and copy and paste the photo here
Wouldn’t it be faster to just say it is in the light blue band at the top of the thread, over no the right?
I tried that.
With a Mac, you can grab a screenshot, then open it in Preview. Go to tools, Annotate and add your arrow and text if you want. Simple to do and comes with the machine.
The example below took about a minute and a half.
Yes, I am being an elitist Mac user.
Normand you’re my hero!! That’s cool. I can’t do it and I dunno what it means, but it looks really cool.
Actually it is simple in windows. Here is a page telling you how to do it:
http://www.wikihow.com/Take-a-Screenshot-in-Microsoft-Windows
Vista has a snip tool and 7 is even easier yet.
I use the snip tool, save the snip to my pictures file, edit it with my photo editor, save the edited copy, download it to photo bucket and post it like a photo.
a bit more involved than mac but it also allows the full pwer of the image editing software to be used.
i kind of messed that one up
My wife has a snip tool fact is she’s a bit snipie today!
kinda like my instructions. snip tool vs print screen. whats the difference?
i would have tried that but nobody would have read it!
Betty I think that you get the average of the stars… If I give you 5 stars and mean old…member X gives you 1 star. then you probably get 3 stars or 2 1/2 stars.
PS in the unlikely event that member x should actually give you only 1 star, I will of course hunt him/her down and beat them with a wet noodle.
