Duck Shoulder Dun (Carnage variation) SBS

Rick Osthoff’s variation on the Swisher No-hackle get’s the foam treatment. Tied here as a March Brown; change colors/size to suit your needs.

hook - Dai Riki 125 #14
thread - Danville 6/0 tan
core - 8lb mono
tail - hackle fibers rusty dun
abdomen - 1mm foam tan
wing - mallard shoulder feathers
thorax - dubbing tan

Part 1

mash barb, start thread; put a loop in the end of a piece of mono and tie in

even tips on a clump of hackle fibers; measure (2x hook length) and tie in

adjust hook angle; hook mono onto the gallows

wrap hackle fibers up the core and back down mono (1 hook length)

tie in foam strip

brush core with Super Glue, wrap body

Part 2

dub back of thorax

prep a pair of shoulder feathers (convex to convex)

measure (even with tail); tie in/trim butts

dub rest of thorax

half hitch x 2, SHHAN
