Dressing up a spin seat

I’m building a spin rod for my 12 yr old niece for Christmas and being a 12 yr old girl she likes things that are sparkely as well as purple, so I had to do something to dress up the plain cork seat I had for her spin rod. Came up with this which came out really cool looking so thought I’d share it with everyone else as a quick way to dress up a plain reel seat.

Started out with a plain cork insert spin seat and hoods and some flat metallic butt wrap material and secured the one end of the mattalic flat wrap to the edge of the cork insert with a dab of super glue

Then wrapped the entire cork insert with the flat wrap overlapping each wrap about 1/16"

Once the other end is super glued down then just applied finish over the entire insert like you normally would a wrap and let cure

What you end up with is a pretty neat looking seat that should make one little girl very happy once its on her new rod

Metallic purple wraps with metallic silver trim on a pink blank? That is a sharp dress-up, Steve.

The blank is going to be a Tiger eye blank (dark brown) but then I’m dressing it up with custom grips with some purple accents in the cork, and I’ve got a couple different shades of purple metallic/rose metallic for the wraps but I’m still not sure which ones I’m going to use just yet. Have to see what looks “right” once I get to wrapping it tomorrow. One things for sure it’s gonna be a flashy rod when its done, but that’s what she wanted…she has weird tatse in colors:lol:

With 6 daughters and 8 grand-daughters, I have noticed that tendency.

I was thinking of my passel of girls when I saw some pink blanks at Mud Hole. The custom rod builder series is available in pink and purple, too!

I did hot pink and lime green for my girls. Girls do seem to like the flashy colors.
