I know there are more than a few people out there who have turned foam or balsa bodies on a dremel so how about a ‘dremel’ swap?
Swap rules:
-Any material (foam, balsa etc.) but must be turned on a dremel, or any other kind or rotary tool, drill, lathe etc… (looking for turned bodies only, not crease flies or just foam patterns)
-The first 12 ‘dremel’ swappers to sign up or however many we have by midnight on Feb 7. If we have less than 6 we do 2 different patterns each.
-Flies in the mail by March 1st.
-Toe tags with at least your FAOL name (Real name is welcome), recipes optional but preferred.
-Send flies in an appropriate sized container.
-Self addressed envelope with adequate return postage.
So what do you say, do we have any dremel turners out there? If you sign up. please post the size of the pattern you’re tying so the rest knows what to expect.
Bass_Bug I really dont understand I am gonna be slow on this …sorry…
Do you mean;
Just turned bodies ?
or; turn the bodies and then tie up stuff on the the turned bodies?
and then paint em or only send plain unpainted unfinished with or without hooks etc.,
Ya see what I mean ? at my age things are confusing at times/./././ sorry bout that
Nevermind just PLEASE go ahead and sign me up and I’ll do the best I can and I am certain you’ll be a kind enough to coach me…lolol…Thanks Amigo
This is regular swap with finished/completed flies. I’m just looking for flies where the body has been turned on a dremel/drill/lathe etc. After that, anythong goes.
BB I will send Popper Frogs,
I started to gather up my materials today.
I cant seem to locate the popper foam you sent me 4 years ago,but will find em.
Been wantin to do these for a long long time and nows my 1st chance at it.
There have been several threads on FAOL on turned foam bodies. Solid foam works well, but I laminated several sheets of craft foam for bee bodies
Here’s what I started with. I cut the foam into about 1.5" wide strips by about 5" long then glued together.
Then used a piece of copper tubing (1/2"OD) chucked in a drill, and drilled out some plugs.
-Chucked a ring-shank nail in my dremel, poked nail though the foam plug and turned to desired shape with an emery board.
-Insert a Mustad 33903 #4 kink shank hook and CA glue to hook.
-Add hackle to thorax, and a thread head to finish it off.
My sign up deadline was originally set for tonight, which I;ll stick to since there doesn’t seem to be any dremel turners who want to swap. Since I only have 2 so far, it looks like it will be a small swap. I doubt there will be 8 or 10 more sign up today, but hey, stranger things have happened. I’ll put you down. check back tomorrow and we’ll take it from there.
My original thought was if we had less than 6 swappers we each do 2 different patterns, But I won’t hoild anyone to that. If you can, fine, if not, that’s fine too.
Jeffro, I’ll be looking forward to your flies as usual.
Thanks BB…I’ve been doin some research on how to’s and I am phych’d up and will start on the Frogs this weekend and will also do a minnow pattern I found.
I think this will be my biggest challenge yet.
I have a Dremel PRESS like a Drill press stand and will lay it down on its side to do my bodies…and then again may not have to lay it down just leave it standing up-right…not sure yet.
Bass-Bug I got my 1st Frog done and that was fun…I’m gonna get busy on the rest of em and if anyone is scared dont be,cuz once ya finish the 1st one you’ll tell yourself,>>>>Self, that was cool and you can do it again…BB,I am hooked on poppers now …lol…Thanks
