Dominick's Sprucie SBS

Variation on LaFontaine’s Buzzball; not that it needs improvement but the wing helps with visibility. This goes into the tailwater box for next year.

hook - Dai Riki 305 #14
thread - Danville 6/0 tan
body - Ice Dub golden brown
hackle - grizzly dyed hot orange
wing - Congo Hair beige

Part 1

mash barb, start thread; tie in CH over the bow

tie in hackle at the bend

dub thread/dub body to 2/3 mark

wrap hackle to 2/3 mark; tie off/trim

dub head; finish thread at 2/3 mark

trim hackle (gap width) top and bottom

Part 2

pull CH back; tie down, whip finish, SHHAN

trim wing (shank length)

I like it. Assuming this would be used for midge hatches like that original LaFontaine’s Buzzball and the Griffin’s Gnat? Seems like that little wing would add lots of visibility.

That’s how I plan to fish it. I had good luck with the Buzzball when there were a lot of midge clusters on the water.
