Hi Folks,
Yesterday while fishing I wrenched my
knee a bit. My wife mentioned to the
neighbor last night that it was causing a
bit of pain and that I had planned to mow
the yard today. The “yard” is about 3 acres
and takes me about 5 hours on my riding
mower.
This morning I could barely get out of bed
and hobble around the house. Bright and
early there was a knock on the door and
there stood my doctor, bag in hand. Seems
he had spoken to the neighbor after the
wife had. After checking out the knee and
writing a script to get me through the
weekend, my Doc unloaded the John Deere
from his trailer and mowed my yard.G All
he would accept was a cup of coffee. He
instructed me to stay off the knee and told
me he’d be back this evening to see how I
was doing and to drop off the feathers from
the turkey he shot this morning.G Have I
got a great Doc or what?G Warm regards,
Jim
Hmmm, Let me get this straight…your Doctor made a house call, mowed your lawn with his tractor, would only accept a coffee as payment and mentioned that he would drop you off the feathers from a turkey that he had just so conveniently shot that morning ???
Jim ol’ boy me-thinks you have been had, i suspect that the actual payment will be a very serious amount of muddler minnows or something else using…turkey feathers… as one of the main materials.
I hope your hands and arms are in good shape, if not that doc will probably “need” to pay you another house call only this time with a bag full of pheasant or some other bird that he just so happened to have shot while hunting just that morning.
I’ve been trying to get the Doc out fly
fishing for about 5 years now. His son
fishes with me often but Dad has a good
practice as well as a class bluegrass
band that he much enjoys. Just not enough
hours to do it all, but he always has time
to check on a friend. My kind of people.G
Warm regards, Jim
Careful there Jim, don’t over do.
We are very fortunate too, our ‘doc’ makes house calls as well. She does’t fish, but has been reading FAOL for years. I’m always amazed and we are very grateful to have her.
I think it is rare in today’s world to have a doc who cares, much less makes house calls!

Jim arre you sure you weren’t dreaming. Guess mine would come --he likes to fish in my pond. I haven’y asked. And he mowed your lawn!!!
Be sure to keep taking his son fishing.
My wifes heart doctor likes to fish so before she had a stint implant I gave him a dozen flies. That must have helped never had a problem since.
Oh yes, I hear things like that DO happen in Hooterville. Where I live however…
Ya gots a good doc there Jim. Must be a friend since outta grammar school.
Best I can say about my doctor was when I had a run in with a bad side effect and was put into the hospital he canceled his vacation to make sure I “made it” and when I had a problem with my room mate, (He would not let me watch the Auburn vs Alabama football game) the doctor had the nurse get rid of him… I hope they just moved him and well you get the picture.
This year the doctor is getting a custom made Fly rod with his school colors on the wraps.
TOO bad it is Miami Orange and green…
Oh well…
Jim maybe I will retire up in your neck of the woods… DO you have a good cancer center near you?

I don’t know for sure buddy, but I can
find out. You could trade that 8 wt
for a 3 wt and a 5 wt and help me chase
these bream and bass up here. Heck, I spect
you might qualify for special benefits under
the SC Piracy Equality Act of 1786. Among other benefits, it guarantees control of the TV remote in semi private rooms and
dibbs on certain brackish water flats
during flood tides. And it goes without
saying, you qualify for a co-captaincy of my
little brigantine any time your in these
waters. Bring it on Matey. Arrgghhhhh!
Warm regards, Mostly Gray BeardG
WE are discussing leaving Florida to retire north of the hurricane area, so you might get a surprise call… We cannot leave until Sue’s mom passes away and neither of us are looking forward to that. She is the best mom-in-law I have ever met and I will miss her as much as Sue will. But when that happens we are going to start looking.
I want to find a place and pay cash for it. I have a lot of equity in my place, and just want to get out of the bill paying habit.
Garret sends a hug and Hannah has started tying flies. Garret wants to do a swap with you this summer. Too much school right now…
No problem buddy. We’d be plumb tickled to have you and yours here in the
South Carolina Low Country.G Drop me an
email if you have any specifics. I’d be
happy to chase info for ya or give ya a
place to stay while you check things out.
But don’t even plan on coming this way
without a rod and some flies.G Warm
regards, Jim
