I am curious to know if Orvis actually makes their own flyline?
I really cant comment.
but i doubt it :o
I’m pretty sure SA makes it.
im with you gramps.
i have a dt3f wonderline for my 3 weight and it casts beautifully, it feels just like a sa line on the rod.
Chris,
What 3 wt rod do you have? I went back and forth between a 3 wt and 4 wt and decided on a 4wt Sage Fli. I just bought an Orvis BBSII reel Tuesday for it. I had them wind on their Trout Easy Mend Wonderline. I did not think to ask at the time if Orvis makes their own flylines.
I promise you they don’t make their own lines. SA makes Wulff and Teeny lines too. They used to make the Sage lines, but they just switched to Rio lines.
I snoop around a lot.
i have a cabelas clear creek 7’ 3weight.
its only 100.00 but it casts GREAT.
definately my next reel, without question will be a orvis BBS
I have been seriously looking at a good 4 weight as of late…how do you like you FLI?
To the best of my knowledge the following companies make all the fly lines for other companies:
Cortland USA
Airflo UK
Masterline UK
Scientific Anglers USA
Northern Sport Canada
You can well imagine that the formulas are well-guarded.
There is a company in France that manufactures silk lines under the name of Phoenix. Also, there are fly lines coming out of China but I do not know what labels are involved.
Gramps,
I think Sage switched due to the parent company (Joshua Green Corporation) owning Rio as well.
Chris,
I like the Sage though I have yet to fish it. I have test casted several times over the past few weeks and like the fast action. It fits nicely with my other Sage rods which are mostly fast action as well (XP and Z-Axis), but one of favorite is a 5 wt SLT. It is slow like a nice Sunday drive along the coast.
i also like a fast action rod!
i have a g.loomis GL3 9’ 6weight, that is a cannon!
i have a SA GPX line on it and its perfectfor it.
as you can probably tell its my favorite rod!

gardenfish,
I have never heard of Northern Sport Canada. Is it sold in the US?
Who makes Rio? They sure claim they do.
I am pretty sure Rio is a manufacturer of flylines.
If Rio doesn’t make their own fly lines, i’d be suprised!.
With all of what they say, they should make their own.
im not soo happy with Rio, though.
i bought there Rio Grand line and 2 weeks later it had those little cracks alll over the running line!
and it hadnt been left in the sun or exposed to much of anything, no heat exposure or anything. heck, it had been dressed all the time(every outing)and only been out for a total of 6 outings! And they said it wouldnt crack because of there FUSION PROCESS or some junk like that. obviously it didnt work for me! so i was a little ticked about that.
needless to say, i went out the next day and bought a SA GPX that casts better and i havnt had any problems with it.
sorry if that was considered a hi-jack…it wasnt meant to be.
I thought the new Rio lines weren’t supposed to be dressed anymore?
Funny you bought a GPX line. It’s the only line that cracked on me. :?
It said it didnt need to be dressed anymore, but after 2 trips the line felt lik crap, even after cleaning. so i dressed it and it made it better.
only temporarily of course.
 thats to funny, well not funny but the fact that the line i bought is the only type you have had problems with.
gramps, by the way, what line do you like that you run on your rods?
What i’ve bought is a Rio Selective Trout and the Wulff TT. They seem pretty good. I bought a reel recently and it came with a new SA Mastery Trout. I’ve been using that for a month and it seems pretty good. It’s still floating and casts nice.
My favorite is Phoenix silk though. Once I settle on a rod i’m going to keep, and know exactly what weight I want. I might buy another one. At $250 ea, you don’t want to buy the wrong one.

I forgot Rio. I am not sure about Monic lines. Anyone know?
Terenzio from Italy makes silk lines too.
