Doak Reels?

Hi,
I’ve been following a spare spool that is labeled “Doak Fishing Supplies”. I know this is from the Doak Fly Fishing Shop in Doaktown, NB. What I don’t know is if they had them made for them, they made them, stuck a sticker on them or if there is any value to it.
Any thoughts or opinions are very welcome.
Thanks,
Mike

Mile,

Going to suggest the obvious: Call the shop and ask.

Allan

Probably hoping he doesn’t have to call Canada unless no one knows…

You got that right Byron! I’ll try googling them. I always find good info here!

The guys at Doaks are great to work with, I have been to their shop many many times living as close as I do (plus it is on the way to some of myfavorite fishing holes and great Atlantic Salmon fishing right on the Miramichi). If you don’t want to call them, shoot them at email at wwdoak@nbnet.nb.ca and explain what you are looking for in terms of information. Dwight

Hey Mike,

There’s two options here. At the end of the 1970’s, 1977 I believe, Jerry Doak took over the family business from his father. At that time, they were stickering some items with a gold label and black lettering. They mostly lablelled Wheatly fly boxes and Hardy spare spools. In the 1980’s Jerry’s brother, who taught school in Fredericton NB and opened a fly shop there also stickered some of the gear he sold. His shop closed in 1997 I beleive… Regardless, the spool is probably a Hardy spool.

Thanks all. I got an email from Doak not too long ago. He was guessing it was an Abel spool. Very nice and told me what he could.
I appreciate all the input.
Mike
