After reading through this post I thought I’d chime in since so far I’m the only one who keeps a saltwater tank. I have a 30 gallon reef tank with only a few fish. As with most reef tanks the majority of the life in the tank is corals and other invertebrates.
My 33-gal White Cloud tank was in fact a saltwater tank in it’s previous life. I gave the saltwater thing a shot for about 5 years. The fish are really cool but it is very frustrating. Just when you get everything setup nice, the fish just mysteriously die. And the more expensive the fish, the more likely they will go belly up. After awhile, I just gave up.
We considered the saltwater tank, but we are limited on space here in the office…and we were told a 10 gallon tank just wouldn’t do.
We have a couple of saltwater shops here, great fun to go and watch!

Ladyfisher,
Though I’d never made the connection before, having the 30-gallon indoor tank does keep the mind thinking “fish” night and day. I read, tie, converse and unwind with those fish in my peripheral vision. Maybe it’s a deep seated hope that through osmosis I will discover a secret fish behavior that helps me think outside the box on next trip to the stream. I’ve often wanted to develop a “trough tank” to more accurately mimic stream fish. If I did that then I’d rarely go fishing…
