I have never heard of such a thing!
You are very unusual, as a matter of fact
I think you are sick and need psychological
help, and possibly medication.
As someone who has overcome the illness that you so recently admitted to, I am very willing to help you in the first step in overcoming it. The first thing you must do is to rid yourself of thei so called collection. Since I am so willing to help, pack it all in as many boxes as needed and send them to me. send me an email and I will give you my address.
I don’t know of any fly tyers who aren’t also collectors. Some tyers just have a stronger inclination toward collecting and a bigger pocket book. I’ve been collecting since the late 1950’s when I was twelve years old. Never had enough stuff then—still don’t. 8T
You had better learn to be a happy camper. You only get one try at this campground and it’s a real short camping season.
Welcome to the world of the fly tyer & fly fishing. We are all sick puppys…so what !!!
I love this disease I have, & wouldn’t give it up for anything !!!
That is just sick!!! Here you are collecting materials while there is poor people like me that don’t even have 10 hooks left in the box. SEND EM OVER!!!
If you find you’re having trouble “collecting” too much material, you’d best stay off the Internet! Too much cool stuff! eBay, fly shops, somebody’s bulletin board site (FAOL, ahem!). Man, I have more dubbing and sparkley things, and furs, and… that I’ll ever use in ten lifetimes! (Note to all: NO, I will NOT give up nor sell my stuff! It’s mine and you can’t have it! I know I’ll need it soon.)
I do collect, but not on purpose. I am forever picking something up, either at a shop, or by the side of the road, or out in the woods on a hike. I bring them home, tie a few flys just to see how it handles and store it away for someday. I have some stuff I can no longer identify. Many years ago my bride gave me a Vacu-saver system and some of my finds are sealed in air tight bags waiting for the just the right fly to come along so I can cut the seal and use them.
The other day I actually passed up a porcupine skin, fresh and in good condition, on the side of a backroad. Guess I should be considered a ‘recreational collector’. Although I slowed down to look, I was able to keep my wits and keep the car on the road and did not stop.
Aside from that and the: 20,000+ hooks, 50+ shoe boxes of materials; 100+ spools of thread; 100+ spools of tinsel & floss; 25+ tote boxes of more materials & skins; 100+ necks and saddles; 125+ books, I am not a collector! I say, I am not a collector!
I’m not! I’m not! Anyone know of a good half-way house or de-tox center?
mantis - Sorry about that. It had nice quills and a ton of guard hairs! I know how you covet that stuff.
adso - If your comment was directed at me, my wife and I have a ‘Do not ask, do not tell’ policy about her clothes/shoes and my fishing/tying stuff (-:
Tyrone - LOL, but it won’t matter. I told her to burn everything!
