I was out fishing last week in what I consider ideal conditions. Light precipitation, briskly cool, and overcast with a light wind. It keeps others off the water, and I get some time on the stream without many other people to contend with. The trout don’t seem to mind the rain or snow like the fishermen do.
Anyway, I was just enjoying the relative quiet between catching rainbow trout, and took the time to really pay attention to the sounds in the background as the calm of the day set in just before sundown. In the midst of the peaceful isolated time I was spending, the background noises included…Lions roaring and elephants trumpeting.
I am fortunate enough to have a seasonal trout stream in town (several hours from traditional trout territory), and it turns out that it is 1/2 mile from the local zoo. Kinda weird, but cool at the same time. If I was a better writer, it might make an interesting story for FAOL, with a thought provoking moral about catching the experience along with your trout. But I’m not, so here is the best you are going to get for the moment. It was just a strange realization, and I’m looking forward to getting out to experience it again.
Anyone have any other strange flyfishing scenarios that they have found themselves in?
