Destin in April

I am taking my wife and kids to Destin in late April 2007. My kids (8, 10, & 11) love to fish - my wife not so much. We are bringing our 2 kayaks. I would like to try kayak fishing in the ocean but it scares my wife too much - I am still working on her though. Any pointer as to where / how to fish would be greatly appreaciated. I Fish for bass, crappie, and catfish regularly and have fly fished for trout a few times, but it has been too long since I lived in Destin and fished saltwater. What gear should I bring? We will be staying at Henderson Beach State park.

DC, If you are able to travel about 45 miles, try St. Andrew’s Bay. The water is very kayak friendly and the fishing can be great! Go past Tyndal AFB to the end of the base. Turn right and you will find a launch area. You may need a base permit to launch there. Trout Reds flounder ladyfish pomps and many others available. Great grass flats and creeks. Enjoy. Alan
