Delaware River Camping

I’m thinking of camping sometime over Memorial Day or the 4th of July either On the E Branch, W Branch, or the Beaverkill River. Which one of the three or any others nearby do you all reccomend. I’m looking for small crowds, good trout, and easy public access, and also any fly shops nearby.

bowhunter,

I hate to sound unsympathetic but given those 2 dates, I think you’ll find a lot of people, “looking for small crowds, good trout, and easy public access”.

Trying to answer your question though. I’m not sure what the effect of the recent flood had on the East Branch campsites. I know they were hit hard. The 3 campgrounds near Roscoe may be your best bet. Good water, East and West Branch Delaware are within 30 minutes, the Beaverkill at your doorstep, the Willowemoc within 10 minutes. There are fly shops in Roscoe, Livingston Manor, Hancock and up the East Branch (if it’s still in business).

Finally, take a look at the information about the Roscoe Fish-In. Maybe you can join the rest of us for a day or two.

Good luck.

There are some nice (but popular) camping sites on Lake Oquaga, which is a few miles west of Deposit, NY.

And then there’s the DRC (Delaware River Club)
right on the river. Campsites, motel rooms, restaurant and flyshop all in one. Private access to some nice “holes” on the Delaware River too.

I’d rather be in Wyoming!
