I’ve been thinking about this for a while. I like to do a deer hair swap. Size 2 to 6. Deer hair spun or stacked. Tie them big, poppers, sliders, divers. Here’s your chance to develop your skills. Six swappers max. Sign up by April 30, Bugs to me by May 31. Normal rules apply. I’m going to do a a frog pattern, maybe a mouse.maybe both. I’ll send my snail mail as you sign up. Dan Gober
Still need 2 more swappers. There has to be to more adventurous deer hair tiers out there.

The swap is now closed. Tie 5 flies and send them to. Dan Gober, 758 County Route 8 , Fulton, New york 13069. I’ll be tying 2 bugs so the swappers who signed up will get the 6 new bugs back. Take your time and if you have any problems give me a yell. dan gober
We may have a last min. addition so we might have a full swap. dan
No real problems, Dan. I’m just new at this and REALLY slow. I’ve got 4 tied up and one on the vice. Trimming and mailing are next. I hope you’ll accept my entries.
I’ve got my 5 bugs tied, trimmed and boxed. Next step is to wait in line at the post office. Probably today, but maybe tomorrow.
These are my first poppers and I hope that they are good enough. My total of deer hair spinning experience is wound up in these flies. I wouldn’t mind a bit of critique, after all, how else will I learn? I do know that they will catch Black Crappie… I caught two on my buddy’s pond with my first ever tied deer hair popper before I lost the fly to a sweet gum tree. I guess it’s what the fish thinks that counts.
I’m looking forward to seeing what the experts tie up for this swap!
Dan my flies are leaving today, sorry with storms, tornadoes and cleanup it has been crazy. Went to Joplin yesterday to take donations and help friends that lost their home. Very sad.
Received flies from WCCNOVICE and LEBENGEEK. David your flies are very good, you took a lot of time and it shows. You just need to keep tying. Lebengeek you sent some very high quality flies, best I’ve seen in a long time. I glad you both joined my swap. I have yet to hear millerwb. I hope he’s ok. Dan
I have been laid up with a hurt back for the last month and have not been able to complete my flies. I am sorry to have kept you waiting. I was hoping that I would get better and be able to get them completed.
Modoc Dan your flies arrived. Looks like we are one man down. So give me a day or two and I’ll have them sorted and on the way. Looks like Wednesday will be the day i can get to the PO. Dan
I got the flies today. All I can say is Wow! You all made some seriously awesome flies. The mouse is way cool! I can’t believe what you can do with deer hair. I love it! The jitterbug is over the top. Thanks for letting a beginner play. I can see where I can go with this. I have something to aim for.
I received my flies, Thanks again for letting me join your swap Dan. Sorry I forgot to add tags to my flies, mine was the jitterbug looking fly. I explained to Dan about the fly and wanted to post so that others in the swap can utilize its functions. First the fly has an internal rattle, which helps make added noise in the water. The second feature is the convertible weed guard. By pulling on the brass beads at the hook eye you can suck the weed guard up and away from the hook when you are not fishing in the weeds. for fishing in weeds just pull on the mono at the belly of the fly and you have a weed guard again. I leave it weedless to keep the shape of the mono. If I’m in an area where i know i wont get snagged ill pull the weed guard out of the way of the hook. Enjoy and thanks for the flies, good luck on the water.
