Flying out tomorrow morning to try some fishing on the Tongue River in Dayton Wyoming.
Would anyone be able to provide some help on where I can buy my fishing license and a good
place to grab a beer? We are staying at the Elk View Lodge that was recommended by members on here. We will be begging for help for places to go once we get there. Not sure about the local area and any private property issues etc. We are just going to fish for a day and a half and then we’re off to the Bighorn for three days.
I’ll be sure to post a fishing report on here for all to see.
Now all I need is to find me a place in Dayton to pick up a bottle of Scotch to start my trip of right!
Don’t drive too fast on the climb up to the Tongue. There is such fascinating information posted roadside on the geologic history of the region on the way. The north branch is what I fished and is where I caught my first cutthroat ever. As you head west your heart will skip several beats as you come over the top and see the valley spread out before you.
Not sure about Dayton proper, but the Fly Shop of the Bighorns in Sheridan is a pretty decent shop. As of last year there was a pretty good spot to grab a brew east of the main drag a block or two, but for the life of me I can’t remember the name of it at the moment. I’ll try.
Thanks for all of the info. I will be posting a fishing report sometime next weekend as I just got back and have a lot of stuff to catch up on.
In short…the Tongue was just awesome and the bighorn was…as always …outstanding.
