Ken,
Thanks for your fine Article! Dave Whitlock has always been a important inspiration to me. For the past 35 yrs Dave’s work as a Flyfisher and Artist have meant a lot to me. I had a few fishing personalities to emulate and Dave was the one I picked. Dave brought a new way of looking at flyfishing and it got my attention. His hopper pattern has always been my favorite. Dave’s behavior is what is most important, because he has been a great ambassador for flyfishing. I hope Dave and Emily have happiness and peace.

Hope Ken got his autograph—my copy of “Guide to Aquatic Trout Foods” is signed "May this guide help you enjoy more skillful flyfishing"with his name but—it includes a fly rod. line, flies and a jumping trout. I asked him at one of our get togethers if he tied to catch fish or fishermen. Fishermen of course!!! BILL
I got 3 of his Masters Series DVD’s ALL autographed. No way I’d be missing that opportunity! Plus, he donated all of the flies he tied that day with signed and dated authenticity cards for our prize drawing after dinner. Unfortunately, those flies are going to be something special in the not so distant future. I thought that was a rather grand gesture. He sells such flies for $50 each. And he donated 7-8 of them.
It was my pleasure to write this column, DShock.
I met him at SowBug two years ago.
A very nice gentleman.
I gave him two of the tandem bass bugs I make and he thought they were the weirdest thing he ever saw.
But he showed alot of folks the flies as he made noise about them.

SM…now you are scaring me
"At seventy three years old, he probably won?t be around a whole longer. "
Sorry, ducksterman, not wishing anyone ill or anything. Just a statistical probability.
But I feel so good

It is interesting though as I find myself telling my buddy that we had better get those lakes planted ASAP that we’re working on…cause who knows.

"At seventy three years old, he probably won?t be around a whole longer. "[/quote Ducksterman that’s terrible to say such a thing about Dave—I’m ten yearsolder than Dave and some young one have a hard time keeping up with me BILL
Yep, Bill you’re one of my heros 8)
Bill,
My Dad is 81 and he is in better shape than anyone in our family!
Attitude is what it’s all about. All my Dad worries about is when Jepoardy (game show) is on.
Glad your doing good Bill!

Well, guys, when I said “too much longer” I wasn’t thinking about tomorrow! I was speaking in historical terms. Since I went 40 years without meeting him for the FIRST time, I figured I’d better strike while the iron was hot. Ya know? It would be great if he has another 40 years in him, but the odds are somewhat against it. In the sense I meant it, another ten years would be “not too much longer.” And my dad died at 81. The point I was trying to make was to the younger guys: don’t miss an opportunity. You never know which will be your last. It was that simple. But I think y’all are just giving me grief anyway. So as us youngsters say nowadays, Peace - out! LOL
99.9% of your Article was great!
Actually , DShock…I wouldn’t take 0.1% away from it…
SM, it wasn’t grief…just funning…and the realization that all things are relative…if we were over a cool one we’d be having a good time and agreeing ![]()
ducksterman,
I never cease to amaze myself. 99.9%??? It’s obvious I didn’t major in math! ![]()
Anyhow, I am glad your back on the BB! I hope you like the weather!
Doug ![]()
Hey, Doug…it keeps changing…got blown off the lake last week ![]()
How about those Beavers 8)
That’s why I came back to this post!!! You read my mind! GO BEAVS!!!
Second year in a row! OSU team is the comeback kids and Coach Casey is the best!
ducksterman, “funning” is what I meant by the phrase “giving grief.” As in, not serious…just messing with someone in a friendly way.
DShock, I’ll take 99.9% all day long. In my life, I doubt I’ve ever opened my mouth or put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard and said something more than one sentence long that met with 100% approval. So 99.9% is a HUGE compliment.
Besides, I’m just glad to know someone is actually READING my column. Whether they LIKE it or not is just a bonus.
Actually you deserve 100 %!
My Dad was a math expert, but alas there I was in my 12th grade math class and when the teacher spoke, it may as well have been a foreign language! ![]()
I know what 2 plus 2 is though!
