Thanks Norm. It’s nice to get a compliment, particularly as my commercial fly tying career has gone kaput.
Very nice job, once again
Thank you Dave

Dave,
Here?s an [url=http://espn.go.com/outdoors/fishing/s/g_fea_fly-tiers_Thailand03_AP.html:69c6c]Article[/url:69c6c] on “tie-land”, just in case you are thinking of migrating.
I have done some commercial tying. Makes burger flipping seem attractive!

Dave,
I’m a little ashamed of myself for the delay. I read your article last week and am still laughing about your short career as a professional fly tyer. I’ve been meaning tell you what a great article it was and how much I enjoyed it. I did some tying myself many years ago and was paid the princely sum of 15 cents a fly. Sounds like I had better head for Tie-Land too.
Thanks Dave----great story. 8T
You had better learn to be a happy camper. You only get one try at this campground and it’s a real short camping season.
Dave, I enjoyed your article. Now about the sign above your head in the final picture; is the Micus Minnow (or Dave’s Deceiver) considered a “Traditional” Salt Water Fly? What kind of discounts do you offer for bulk purchases of really large orders, say a dozen?..
I tied “professionally” when I was in junior high school. I thought that I was well paid at the time, compared to an allowance of 25 cents a week. I got paid for a gross the price of 1 fly times 100. I still enjoyed it though.
take care, Ed

Nice article Dave, Just out of curiosity, what would your net pay be after materials and shipping? What do they use those clousers and decievers for up there anyway, lakers and landlocked salmon in Winnie? I did find some nicely tied bucktails in Meredith NH, a couple of years back. They were ball head jigs meant for lake trout that were tied as good as any SW ties I’ve seen. I think the shop name was AJ’s. I wonder what the tier got for those… (They worked pretty well for fluke too)
Backbeach, i’d be lucky to get 60 cents a fly after materials and shipping. from what i understand they were going to use the flies for salt water–the maine and nh. coast isn’t too far away.
jjonas–interesting article! i just hope my ex-employer doesn’t read it–he’ll realize that he’s paying too much…
Larry, 8thumbs, ed and norm, thanks for the support. it’s been traumatic, losing my professional fly tying gig, but with friends like you i’ll get over it. i love you man…

Micus, “i love you man…”
I think that Micus is going to have to walk the plank for soft talk like that. I smell a mutany brewing.

You tried to touch WHAT? I thought this was a family friendly site, where’s the moderator?
Man if I wanted to get intouch with a sensitive side I would go where all the old ladies are and learn how to play golf.

Dave
I read this thread and for a minute you had me worried. I thought at first you were trying to get in touch with your female side. And then I read it again and you said sensitive side.
If you were talking about rods, sensitivity would be acceptable. I hope you don’t start crying now. Evil Dave you may have to get your twin a tissue.

Dave, don’t worry about trying to be nice. Stick with something you have some practice at… (Now that should move you back into the pirates league…)
