I absolutely loved it!!! Way to hit it squarely on the head.

I tried calling Mr. Micus to order some of his “innovations” but I kept getting a busy signal. Those thing must be hot! I especially liked the line holder that is filled with complimentary coffee; a “must have”.
Great stuff Dave!!
I will email you a design for a bodkin and bodkin auto cleaner but must a $1.00 royality on each one sold plus and up front $50.00 license to manufacture fee.
Cactus
Bravo!
Great stuff Dave!!!
On a serious note. It seems as if it takes a bunch of those no brain thought process tools for someone to come up with one that actually does work. Also I just wanted Dave to know that I was in a restuarant today for Valentines. They were obviously reproducing bodkins for toothpicks. I think that maybe they should be sued for copyright infringement.

I thought that it was a great article and a wonderful point. If we look around and use what is readily available we can save big $$. One tier I met at the Flyfishing show was tying most of his flies with craft shop items that saved big money. The inginuity and the willingness to look at things with a fresh eye make a big difference.

So, to try and hijack this thread. . .
Do you prefer you r bodkins in bulk packs, individually wrapped (paper or plastic) ro flavored?
Don
You know what? I took my finely machined rare wood bodkin and attached a loop of very thin mono to one end by wrapping 8/0 thread around the ends of the loop and the end of the bodkin binding the two together for all eternity.
I now have a custom manufactured bobbin threader on one end and a non destructive bodkin on the other. The best part is that I can actually pick my pearly whites with the one end and I suppose I could pull the baby teeth of my next grandchild with the other end. Wonders never seem to cease to happen when one puts his mind to it. (Not only that, I won’t get blue in the face the next time I try to suck that dang thread up the bobbin tube and it won’t come!)
DAve, your article is a masterpiece of tongue in cheek…thanks pal!
Snow on the roof with fire in the hearth
Love the article. Is there any chance that I could get a significant discount on a bulk purchase of wooden bodkins? Is there a professional discount as well?
Great theme, I’ll remember it every time I pay $2 for a 4X6 sheet of 2mm foam or 10 feet of “fly tyers’” yarn. 8T
You had better learn to be a happy camper. You only get one try at this campground and it’s a real short camping season.
Pssst… Dave… if you drill a hole in the non-hitching end of your half-hitch tool, you can sell it as a combo half-hitch tool and hair packer… $29.95… you’ll split the profits with me, won’t you???
Ian
If I ever get around to actually machining any working prototypes for some of the fly tying/fishing gizmos that are rough sketched on paper doodle pads; I’m going get Dave to do the advertising & PR work! This is GOOD merchandiseing!
thanks guys…now where are the orders???
Eight thumbs–I just got back from Columbia, SC, flown down at govt. expense to testify in a trial. what a beautiful city!
Dave…Great article!..by the way, do you have to go back for sentencing on the contempt & perjury charges?
Don…I prefer the bodkins with the little umbrella tops…they’re easier to find when you drop 'em! Also, the “mint” ones are nice as you can sniff 'em out if you can’t see 'em (a consideration for me). Obviously, they’re much more costly.

tuber, they gave me a break because i turned informant. expect to see the fbi at your door any day now…
Umbrella tops?..oh you mean the hand sheilds?
Those are especially nice. Dave do you charge extra for those?
bubba_orvis
not if you buy in bulk! seriously–i still can’t get over the ‘fly tying comb’…
Dave,
Speaking of combs, as I recall, from seeing him at shows, noted deer hair spinner Chris Helm uses either a fine toothed barber’s comb or moustache comb seated in a slotted board…total investment MUST be under 2 bucks!
Mike
tuber, if you see me with a comb you KNOW it’s for flytying–i’d have no other use for one!
