Not what I wanted to hear this morning!! What say us to a bunch of dubbing???
I think this calls for long-distance retribution.
That’s what happens when you live in a state that sided with PA in the late unpleasantness.
Betty,
Go to the BassPro tying tonight and buy a package of woodchuck tail in retribution.
Use it to tie up some flies. It works tons better than toad tail.

My last house was built pretty much on the ground. It had maybe 3-4 layers of brick. The ground hogs dug out a section and started having babies. I would close it up, they would open it up. I wouls cement it shut, they would find another loose spot and open it up. I lived in the city limits so I am not supposed to fire firearms but, would wait till the 4th of July and shoot them coming out of the hole from my window. Once and a while, a skunk would get under there and get to fighting with the ground hog and would stink up our house for a week or two until we had washed everything in the house including the carpets. This went on all summer. I would trap the skunks and move them to another area of the county. I never did win that battle, just cemented up the hole made it look good and sold the house.
i’m sorry, but is there something missing from the first post? from later posts it’s possible to deduce that a woochuck was involved, but its crime is unspecified. and it’s a little early for him to be out–or is it?
how much wood did he chuck?
Regards,
Scott
ps - sorry to hear about your infestation
That is the question
The little vermin is correct. AccuWeather calling for 15.8 inches of the white stuff in the next 24.
Am sur I am in the minority here but…
I welcome more winter. Maybe, just maybe we can get up to our average precip in CA.
Looking out my window at more white than I have ever seen in any winter here makes me wish many of you could get a large chunk of our “bounty.” The snow berms are pushing 10’ through the neighborhoods… Two lane roads have become single lane alleys…
And the critters are expiring at alarmimg rates…
And some people want to grouse about a 15" dusting?!?!?!
Kodiak is currently weathering (pun intended) its SEVENTH storm this year with hurricaine force winds… I have kept a boat in the harbor there for 20 years and in those 20 years I have had to have the boat shoveled off three times… All three times were in January of this year.
Whoa, howdy! I WISH it was too early for him to come out and see his shadow … why couldn’t he have come out here today? No shadows to be seen anywhere!!
Hap, I wish that if we were going to have to have more winter, that we could actually have some WINTER!! (oh, be careful what I wish for!!) We’ve had temps in the mid 60’s for the last week! AND, NO fishing!! Accckkkk! Season doesn’t open for another month! I know Alaska has been hit really hard this year. Our DIL parents live in Anchorage, and have piles of snow everywhere. Here we have very confused trees and flowers. Thunder storms this morning.
EdD … BP had no woodchuck hair! Ahhh, well … toadies it is! Oh, Oh!!! The Swamp people are going to be at the BP next week!! Guess I’ll see if we’re related!!
Think you got it rough try being Punxsutawney Phil! There you are sound asleep, snug and warm in your winter borough when some jerk of a human being jerks your chain dragging you out in to the cold just to ask you if you think winter will be early somewhere in the world or not! I don’t know about you but I would do just exactly what Phil has been known to do. Bite the S-O-B that pulled me out of that hole!
Where are all the eco-Nazis when you need one?
Hey Ma,
Here is the fur:
http://www.jsflyfishing.com/cgi-bin/item/NM-770045-0000/71000/Rumpf-Woodchuck-Fur.html
and here is what to ty with it:
http://globalflyfisher.com/patterns/woodchuck/
http://www.fishingwithflies.com/WoodchuckCaddis.html
so now you can get some revenge on Phil when you see a fish eat a fly you tied from his fur!
Betty, sweetest and dearest of Swamp Witches, methinks you were asleep in class at some point in your studies. Woodchucks are varmints, not vermin. Vermin are the wee creepy-crawlies that may pester your varmint. If you really want your revenge, then about this time next year, sponsor a Punx Fly Swap that requires all patterns to incorporate “hair of varmint”, woodchuck to be specific, in the recipe. Sort of a “hair of the (ground)hog that bit you”…
Maybe Uma Thurman will reprise her role as a vicious, blood-thirsty, Kung Fu-sword-chick with the movie “Kill Phil”. Maybe there will be a movie about homicidal, meat pie cooks, “Natural Born Phillers”. Maybe young, tough, anti-social thugs will start being called Punx.
Maybe you’ve got just a wee touch of the Shack Nasties. Meet up with your dedicated, friendly 'gill chasers and see if you can’t get some relief.
Hugs to Ya,
Ed
Here is a little read for you that you should enjoy:
http://newsok.com/bites-and-escapes-when-groundhogs-misbehave/article/3645622
OOH those misbehaving groundhogs! Ha!
Ed wait till one of them things gets into your shorts with you! By golly you’ll call them vermin then along with a few other names and don’t ask me how I know either because you won’t want to know how I know. Oyay!
Now here is the ultimate revenge for you all:
http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/martin/wildrecipes/wgrwoch5.htm
Yes I have eaten groundhog. No it doesn’t taste like chicken it tastes like Groundhog, which is surprisingly good. Then again it does eat the same things as a rabbit so it ought to taste good.
Nighthawk, I can assure you that there isn’t room in my shorts for both me and a groundhog.
