danvilles monocord discontinued

http://singlebarbed.com/2009/08/20/danvilles-monocord-discontinued/

anybody else hear about this?

I’ve learned through harsh experience never to ask the question “what else can go wrong?” But with Mustad giving up it’s traditional hooks for a new, improved (and more expensive) version and Monocord 3/0 being discontinued, I’m waiting for the next shoe to drop. Let’s see: Peacocks have become extinct? Denny has given up the hackle business? Epoxy glue not available to individual citizens? I love 3/0 Moncord for bass flies. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! 8T ;(

Jann’s sells it for 1.20/spool in lots of 12. If buying direct from Danville is much cheaper, I’d say find a couple buddies and order a box of all your favorite colors.

good idea but i dont think danville sells retail

No effect on me, Norm. I don’t tye fly’s with rope.
:o
(Ducks… Runs…)

I have lifetime supply of Gudebrod 3/0, 6/0, 8/0 & 10/0 because I stocked up when the “discontinued” news first broke. Now like most good things fly tying, it’s no longer available.

If you like 3/0 Danville Monocord, NOW is the time to get what you can!

And no, 3/0 Uni ain’t the same critter.

Maybe there is hope in a reoccurrence similar to Gudebrods reintroduction of the Classic Twist for the rod builders out there. S’pose?

I have been using Danville 210 Dernier Flymaster Plus as a substitute for the 3/0 monocord. It is a bit thicker than the 3/0 monocord and stronger. I still have a dozen spools of monocord but only two white which I use extensively for warmwater and saltwater streamer patterns. I am reserving those for flies sizes 6 or smaller and using the Flymaster Plus 210 on stuff up to size 1 or 1/0. I use Danville Flat Waxed Nylon on the larger stuff.

Noticed today that Wholesale Sports alias Sportsman’s Warehouse has a good supply of Monocord…many colors …

and also Danville’s 210…

Incidentally it appears they are replacing at least some of their fly tying inventory and adding some new brands…

Hi Betty,

It would be nice to see 3/0 Monocord come back but I don’t believe that we’ll see a second reintroduction. Take care! 8T

Never used Monocord…anyone got a quick explanation of it’s benefits maybe I’ll grab some while I can?

Monocord is a flat thread.

please let us know what the products are

Must be in the brick and morter. Neither of their websites even mentions fly fishing. As many retail stores as they both show listed, one would think they would have on-line catalog sales. Maybe thats why they’re in financial trouble and closing stores?

Norm, It seemed to me they had more Wapsi stuff…and I noticed some tying stations that weren’t there before…didn’t check the brand…also some Precision Cortland lines…probably some other stuff too but the inventory is still sparse…hook section has not been restocked…

I’m thinking the new parent company maybe wasn’t into fly fishing and they are feeling their way…

Our wholesale sports in Lacy is well stocked and seems well run, perhaps your local one didnt sell much in the way of fly fishing supplies when it was a sportmsamans warehouse.
