Must have slammed the lid shut on your rod right? thats why it pays to double or triple check to make sure the rod is all the way in the trunk before shutting it. As my friend had done the same thing and I was able to fix it as it was just below the tip. Heat the tip top up pull the piece out and re glue it back. not to be a smart A** about it but this is the main reason folks break there rods. Just my 2 cents on this and won’t go any farther with it . Later Matt

In defense of “E”…and because it is one of the few things we sort know for sure, there are many ways to break a rod. My personal favorite is “high sticking”, trying to bring an albie to a mate with a short salmon gaff. 
Welcome to the exclusive club … there’s no feeling in this world like watching yourself slam the car door on your favorite flyrod tip while you stand there powerless to intervene … oh, what marvelous coordination!
Let me say it … I know how you feel.
Trunks. doors, tailgates, toolbox lids, thet are conspiring the bite the rods.

Well the six footer used to lay nicely in the six foot truck bed until I got a bed liner (shortens everything by 3").
Here’s one. My buddy had bought a brand new Wisnston LTX and it was going to be his first time out with the new rod. We were sitting on the bank rigging up and a small boulder came rolling down. Needless to say we got out of the way but his Winston did not. He had not even cast it yet. Lots of foul language followed.

Oh Geez—I feel your pain. There are many rod eaters out there but trunks are one of the worst on equipment. However, my favorite way to break a rod is to stomp on it in a boat. I’m getting better but that’s why I buy rods with a lifetime (no fault) warranty.

Fishing the Ozarks
It was actually the cork end of my SLT 2 wt, not the tip. The rod fits just nicely into my wagon. I thought it was far enough in. Acutally sliced the metal bottom plate right off with a bit of the cork. Broke just enough of the end of the blank to be a problem.
Luckily the rod is warrantied and for 30 beans I can get it fixed, but now is the time of the season I want to fish it. Tough to fish a rod that is in Washington when I’m in Massachusetts.
On most days I would have been really really upset, but it happened only "Mo"ments after Rivera took the collar. Can you beleive the classless fans in the Stadium booed him? The guy is first ballot HOF. He doesn’t owe a single one of them a darn thing if he never gets another out in the big leaues. Can’t stand the guy but respect the heck out of him. Same goes for Bernie who seems to be on the downside of one great career. As clutch a player as I’ve ever seen.
