czech nymph swap again...

SWAP IS FULL*

as threatened, I’m gonna rerun this swap with a more generous timeframe. anyways, similar to last time, six tyers plus myself w/ two flies a piece = 14 flies to me by the deadline which will be april fools day. the submissions for the quick and dirty swap were superb and I expect similar results this time around. additional participants will be welcome should the interest be there.

thanks.

hah!
I smell of zee skunk!
and I’ve had my second rod casualty in two trips this year.

so it was great man.

welcome aboard.

mgj

O.K. - I’m thinkin’ of a tri-corlor or rainbow one. Probably the tri-color. How would that be?

Dennis ~BadBug~

great to have you on board as well, dennis, it’s been too long amigo.

mgj

I have a question — even though you can’t see me raising my hand! Do we have to tie these on the “official” CZ - Czech nymph hooks? Cause I don’t have any of those.

Dennis ~BadBug~

feel free to use any hook you’d like.
I’d steer clear of mustad dry fly hooks of the miniscule variety.

I’ve been using some big (#10-#12) curved dry fly hooks roy christie sent me a while back. I weight the shank w/ lead tape from champagne bottles.

anyways the results are, well, stunning.

mgj

ok this time im doing it april fools is plenty of time

great sean.

yer in.

But what I want to know is ------ are they “stunning” before or after the bottles are empty?

Dennis ~BadBug~

Can I play again Mikey?.. I got loads of window lead left over!

;?}

Roy

of course yer welcome, roy.
yer nymphs are hott.

dennis, I don’t drink champagne.
heh.

mgj

steve,

of course you’re in.

that’s six swappers plus myself. I’ll take 4 more participants. which would be 22 flies by april fool’s day. plenty of time over which to spread the burden.

sean, there’s a link to a czech nymph site on the czech nymph thread on the tying board. that site has more examples than I’ve had time to check out. there’s a good step by step tutorial at the globalflyfisher site as well. ask any questions you’d like. generally speaking they’re slim and weighted with a shellback imitating caddis larva or pupae…not sure which and I get them confused all the time.
rather than following a pattern I approach them as a design problem and go from there.
I guess I’ll have to come up w// something a bit different this time around…

this’ll be good guys. there are some big guns signed up.

mgj

Mikey,
I am new to fly fishing as well as tying. I am Chad’s cousin and he is helping me with learning.I saw the link that Steve put on and I think that it would be a lot of fun to try this. I can’t promise great results but Chad and I are fishing this week and it will give us time to discuss. I would like to be in but I don’t want to embarass myself or make folks mad if I screw up. The guys that are in tie awesome flies, Chad has shown me most of their work. So a long story for someone to beg, huh?

Bill

yer in.
chad knows the drill.
I trust you’ll get yer flies in on time.
I’m a stickler for that ;-]

have fun and learn something. that’s what this is all about.

mgj

OK Mikey-

I’ve watched this post for about three days now waiting for it to fill up. I should say HOPING for it to fill up. But, since it hasn’t, I feel moved to join in myself.

There are surely a plethora of czech nymph patterns out there. I’m sure I can find something I like.

If I understand you rightly, you’d like 22 flies of the same pattern to you by 4/1/06. We’ll each then get two of each pattern back. Yes?

I love a new challenge.

yes ed, you’ll be getting two flies back from each participant. thanks for playing along.
