creek compant odc sport xl on sale at cabelas.

I was at cabelas yesterday and seen that they had creek companys odc sport xl on sale for 229.99 from 279.99… I have read that they are a good company, but that the sport xl is there intro pontoon.
Has anyone here ever used the sport xl. I would love to hear some input about it…

Thank you

The Sport is indeed Creek Co.'s entry-level toon. It would be fine for pond fishing but I don’t think I’d want to shoot any rapids in it!
Creek Company is indeed a good company. I’ve previously owned a few of their higher-end boats and they were very good to listen to me and answer any/all questions. I never had to use their warranty but have friends who have and they all reported that it went very smoothly.
I would not hesitate if you were concerned about their customer service.

Hey thanks for the reply. Good to hear that they do have good customer service. One thing I niticed on their site was that they had many upgrade options, as well as replacment parts.
As far as how I might use it, well in my area there are many small lakes. I’m sure it would be fine for that as the only day it is overly choppy would be day that are so windy you wouldnt want to be out anyway. There’s also the damm I like to fish. With the exception of the water comming from the wheel. I would say that the water might be rated at a class 2 dropping to a class 1 a couple hundred feet down. The sport xl is rated for class 2 rapids. So I would hope that it would be okay. The missippi also runs threw our town. Id doubt it would be rated above a class 1. Although right now with winter runoff the water level is higher, and running faster.
Being that it is easyer to launch from a lake; that would be where most time on the water will be spent.

i have a creek company super sport and like it alot. i fish lakes and ponds with it. i have changed out the oar system to the more conventional oar locks and swapped out the oars with longer ons. i also added the companies rod holders. it serves my purpose. not too many rivers to run a pontoon boat on here in connecticut without pi$$ing off a bunch of flyfishermen.

Very nice. Yours is the nine footer. Cool, the one I am looking at is the eight footer, but it’s the same boat other than that. How does she ride in the water? Does it set up enough so you dont get your tail wet? And how is it in a littel wind?
I plan on the the new oars/locks that they sell like you now have. I’d say a rod holder is a must, and an anchor of some sort. But all of that will come in time.
Thanks for the info…

every pontoon is going to act up in windy situations.

it rides high enough that your butt is out of the water.

i use a 12 lb mushroom anchor. i just tie the rope to the frame, coil the rope into one of the storage pockets and put the anchor on one of the tubes. works great for me.

I have the Creek Co. ODC 816. Added a swivel seat and PVC rod holder

This is how I haul it.

I, also, have a Creek 'Toon boat… the ODC “JetPak” #850.
I’ve dealt with the company, on a few occasions, asking questions and advice on making some changes and they’re been extremely helpful every time. My boat’s 4 years old and still going strong.
I use in on both, still and fast water, and it’s a great 'Toon for both!
I’m not as “worthy” of course, as The Honorable Sir Lord Jack Hise, so I have to carry my 'Toon like the rest of the peasants…

It’s good to hear from all of you. I apriciate all of your replays. I looked around a bit, and found creek company to have the best for the money. Or so it seems… And although I just cannot afford 500-800 on a pontoon. The ODC sport might be just fine for me, as most of my time will be spent on lakes, and ponds. Still I like the option of the ocasional river; not that there are many here… lol
There will be a few things I would like to upgrade in time… And they all seem possible with the odc sport. Such as swivel seat, improved oar locks/oars, maby a trolling motor… All of these things seem possible with the odc sport. So although it is an entry level pontoon. For me it might be just fine… Giving me a whole new aspec of fly fishing.
Living in cali I have always had some great streams to fish; last year we moved in MN. There are tons of lakes. Four within eight miles from me, and two of them are within two miles. You don’t see to many streams or rivers. The exception being the missippi river wich is four blocks from my house…
I can’y acually buy it now, but will put some money down on it this weekend… I love cabelas layawy plan… lol

Jack where did you get the rack that holds your pontoon? Wonder if it can be attached to my car…

Dead Fly;
The carrier requires a 2" Reese or Reese style hitch. If you are set up with one I can pm you the contact for the carrier. The cost of the carriers is reasonable but the cost of adding a Reese Hitch can be expensive!
I sure does make it a lot easier than humping it up on the car top carrier as poor (Ha!) St Paul must do!

you can get a carrier here

or here

Thanks for the info. I’ll probleble look into getting some type of caryer after I get my pontoon. Should have it in about two weeks can’t wait.

Those hitch receiver toon carriers will cost you more than your ODC Sport boat!
Just a thought!

My carrier was recently on Ebay for $179.00.

and are there any more?? how about a link?? could help out someone looking for one!

Normand;
The builder is not a sponsor so I won’t post a link. I will sent you a pm with a contact.
