Anyone know where I can get a 1/4 whiting cree saddle, or better yet are they available?
good luck.
email denny conrad and get on his list for cree.
then wait.
never seen a 1/4 saddle, but I did come across a three capes in a bout a month a while back. yep, bought them all up.

there is 1 from Howards Hackle and 2 from Hoffman on Ebay. i think they were whole saddles tho.
It’s not whiting but Fly Fishers Paradise
someone asked about cree and they FFP stated that they had bought all that Metz produced. Haven’t seen the colors but contact them.
Just general info.

I think you are probably going to buy the whole thing (neck or saddle) if you want a Cree. Whiting Cree shows up from time to time. I got a Whiting Cree saddle from Mike at e-fltyer.com awhile back. IMHO the Whiting dark barred ginger is so close to their Cree that the fish would never care and it is alot easier to find.
I would like to second FlyFshr’s point. I think that a well-marked, dark-barred ginger is a lot more bang for your buck than a cree saddle or cape. I’ve also gotten some excellent variants and chocolate-barred dun capes  from Denny that are very close to cree over major portions of the skin. Just my 2% of a dollar. Others will disagree! 8T
We are still producing a few very high color Crees. I get a bit anal in my grading this color because everyone has a different concept of what the Cree color is.
We have shut off the waiting list until I catch up.
Three years ago I had an idea. (ya I get one now and then)
Years ago when Tony Spezio first was tying the Chilie Pepper the chenile had some pearl color to it. We can no longet get the old stuff so I though if I could modify the Cree by removing the black chevrons and replacing it with dun I would have a more fishy color. As I already had the female side that we had perfected I only needed to try and figure out what to use on the male side to modify this new color. I spent a lot more time going over records than I am willing to admit and trying to play with the color genes to accomplish this breeding. The first rooster I tried worked 100%. Maybe got lucky I guess.
The first bunch I produced were taken to the Sowbug and many down there bought them. In fact all I first produced sold far quicker than I anticipated. Many customers were told about them and have tried them with good results.
Several tiers have tested this “New Color” and all of us like it. We all find it can be used on almost any fly even though the pattern does not call for it.I call it “barred ginger/cree like/dun/new.”
To make it easier for all of us we call it “The New color” After producing this color for 3 years now we all like it. I am producing it with the dun chevron being chocolate dun to pale blue dun. By looking at it without really looking (don’t we all do that?) it appears as if it is Cree. Some of the dun is darker but not the black of the Cree.
Because we experienced a wierd weather early last October our birds went into a moult early. Only part of our birds were processed and we got stuck with wintering over quite a few birds. They really look good and perhaps because they are older will be mostly grade 2s and 1s. None are for sale at this time so I am not trying to sell them. As soon as they are processed and ready to go, they will. I will not keep a “want list” on them. I will eventually do some pict for our web site. Sorry about not having done so. This will be added as one of our standard colors.
I tied them and fished them on the chilie Pepper with excellent results. One of the flies I like to fish is the Stimulator so this new hackle was used on them and the results were outstanding. Also my parachute Adams are producing a lot more fish.
We are processing them in capes and saddles, normal processing and not charging any more than our other colors. We do plan on doing a few of the more outstanding ones in full skins also.
So I agree with some of the above comments by 8 thumbs about the barred ginger and chocolate duns we produce. This new color is really a winner. By the way I fished 83 days last season and kept count of fish brought to hand (never again will I keep track!) My records show I brought to hand 1032 trout of all species. I personally like this color and obviously so do the fish.

Denny-How did the Cree Hen Project tirn out? Please check your E Mail.
Thanks

Because of the above listed breeding program we have not been processing very many Cree hens. We needed several more for our “New Color” program.
Those on the list will eventually get one if they still want one when ready. I have not forgotten, just side tracked with my playing with the colors

Cool. 10-4 and learning to be patient. Thanks
