I’m interested in crawfish patterns, since they seem to often be a preferred food item for many species and you don’t see a ton of patterns out there for them. So sign up and submit your pattern for imitating mudbugs. Be sure to post your recipe or include the info on your tag. Here’s the rules:
First 7 people to speak up plus the swapmeister will be involved. 7 flies from each person. Have all the flies tied, toetagged and to me by March 3rd along with a crushproof container and return envelope with postage. Be sure your container is large enough. I’ve had a couple of swaps where I had to cram flies in containers that were not quite big enough. I feel bad when I have to do that. (so don’t make me feel bad! )
You are all signed up.
White43, plenty of patience here, assuming you can work up your pattern in time for the deadline. And with 5 weeks to work out the details, that shouldn’t be to tough for you. Welcome aboard!
1 spot left!

Thanks for the spot and confidence. This is one of those things like the dremel swap. I’m committed so I MUST tackle my inhibitions and do it. A challenge if you will. JGW
Well, I’ll tell you the truth. I’m working on a new pattern myself. I have an example or 2 to work from, but I haven’t really tied a bunch of them yet. This swap is kind of my excuse to get things worked out. That’s why I gave such a long lead time. I figure that this will be the one where everyone get their flies in by the first week, and then I’ll be the weakest link. Isn’t that how it usually works out?
Hey there ol’blue I have sat on the fence with this one and decided to jump in. I am also working on a pattern that is very mudbug like but easy to cast and has a combonation of triggers. It also has no name yet but I will put a handle on it before the end of the swap.

A wise man learns from others”
I have no problems with an extra tyer. Mine will be a “clouser craw.” I can visualize my intentions, now if I can only get it wrapped to the shank. JGW
Well, I started working on my pattern this morning, and I think it is going to turn out pretty well. In fact, I’ve been inspired, so I’m heading for the fly shop this afternoon for more materials. I’ll post my recipe when I get everything finalized.
BTW, Bassman, I think one of my recipes is pretty close to yours. It should be fun to see how they turn out.
Well, I got my final recipe figured out. I’m tying in brown for the swap, but it could be done in burnt orange, olive, grey, black or even attractor colors. Here it is:
Hook - #6 3x heavy, 4x long
Thread - brown
Body - brown chenille
Hackle - brown
Eyes - black bead chain
Case/tail - brown swiss straw
Ribbing - copper wire
Antenna - brown rubber leg material
Claws - Mini pine squirrel zonkers dyed brown
Tied with lead wire wrapped around the hook to help the fly sink and to build up the body.
