Crane Creek, Crane, MO.

Had a grand time fishing Crane Creek this last week.

The creek north of Crane was completely dry. Wind blew dried leaves down where the stream bed roared last year at this time.

The creek south east of town was wonderful. Great movement, super pools, beautiful little McCloud trout. Man, were they spookie!

The conservation area had been cleaned up and reposted about hunting and fishing regulations, so no more deer parts laying about the parking lot.

Crane, to me at least, has always been a challange, and this time proved no less. It still is a great way to spend a couple cold, winter days.

Trouts don’t live in ugly places

Betty,
Did you see many fish? I know Crane has had it’s problems with drought and was not looking good the last time that I was there.

Steve,
We saw many fish … who also saw us and took to the hills! Tricky fishing, but really great. It’s always a thrill to catch, and release, a wild McCloud.

Betty,
I’m glad to hear that the creek is making a come-back. Those are special fish. I have done best at Crane fishing the swifter runs and riffles where you can’t see the fish and they can’t see you.
