Here is a crab pattern that is comprissed of monofilament and thread . And a couple of shots before coloring with markers.
Wonderful crab Fred. Very realistic, great job as always!!
That’s beautiful job Fred, it appears to have about 5 spools of thread in it and a pretty large hook. If you don’t mind what’s the material list.
Thanks Kelly . Uncle Jesse this is tied on a size 4 hook and is only 1 1/4 inches long.I tie in 22 wraps of .025 lead wire on to the hook shank and add varrying sizes of monofilament to create the body , swimmers and claws. I taught this fly in a workshop I did for the Gulf Coast Council of the FFF three or so years ago.

Looks great! I’ve never tried salt water fly fishing, but I’ve always liked the look of the crab patterns. And, realistics are always cool, so tihs combines two cools in one!

Very Very Nice Fred H
Thaks Jeff and Jeffro. Much appreciated, Fred
How long does one of those take you to make, start to finish coloring?
I taught this fly to a group of 10 tiers , 2 of which had never tied a fly before that day. It took us over 2 1/2 hrs . You can only go as fast as your slowest tyer. I can tie this pattern in 35-40 mins.
Fred
Would you be willing to share a step by step photo shoot of this recipe?
I know it would be alotta trouble but that is one bad to the bone creation there Fred and I would like to do one of those.
Thanks for sharing
Jeffro the step by step is rather large , over 40 photos. I have decided to put them in cd form and sell them off my site and at shows. I am looking into setting the patterns up as pdf’s to eliminate the cost of the cd,cd case and shipping.
Fred
I’ll buy a CD if ya make some…Thanks
Fred i am curious about the legs, looks like twisted or maybe Furled mono line?
Is this a close guess?
Thanks
