I see a lot of you forgo color Preserver.
And for many good reasons!
I had purchased an assortment of threads from H&H. My latest rod is getting gold thread and a very light coat of cp. Last night when applying the epoxy I saw that I had missed some areas with the cp. They turned very dark and I figured that today I’d remove them and start over. Well, today no dark spots? The wraps are a nice even gold!! There is no name on the spool just the #521 and the color! I must not need cp whatever it is!?
I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here!

I don’t think I did as at the time I wasn’t sure what cp was! (DUH!!). Tried to cross ref. Bob’s catalogue but his part numbers don’t jibe with those on the thread. Also, I don’t think I’d have paid 7+ bucks a spool and then order NPC thread?? I’ll have to ask bob. Just did a whole section with no cp and the color is comming back nice!!

Jack: to my knowledge they dont make gold in reg or ncp thread. Sounds to me like you used a metalic thread (color gold). If that’s the case you dont need any CP.
All metalics are the same as far as CP is concerned. None needed. Just remember with threads other than metalics , you will need CP to retain color unless you chose NCP thread. PS. Keep in mind metalics are best used for trim rings not complete wraps for guides , as they are not as strong.

Was “playing” in the H&H catalog this morning, and noticed the NCP thread is 7.20 a spool. If you got the pac bay gold colored thread, not the metallic gold thread, number 521, that’s probably why the gold color held. The metallic thread is only 3.10, and the regular rod winding thread is 2.20.
Good color choice for your lady friend! Green for emeralds! If you don’t use cp on it, it’ll have the shine and depth of emeralds!
