Coyote survives 75mph hit

While driving 75mph,the 2 struck a coyote and assumed it was dead and moved on. 600 miles later, they discover the coyote was alive in the radiator.

Unbelievable, they are survivors if nothing else.
Thanks for sharing that one.

Dave from Folsom - a place that has plenty of " Local Coyotes ".

This is, excuse me, bull sh**!

I don’t believe this for one moment.

Bob

I believe everything I see on the internet, don’t you?

True or not, it’s conceivable--Snopes.com says it’s a true story. Many animals can survive severe injuries, at least for a while–think of badly shot game animals that get up and run away. Their spleens store a large quantity of blood that is available immediately to replace hemorrhaged fluids and fluids displaced by hydrostatic shock. This coyote may have survived and died later from internal injuries after escaping. I could see where it could have been hit in just the right way that the flexible plastic bumper cover would cushion the impact as it went between the cooling vents and into the front of the vehicle–lucky, yes, but conceivable. Humans are, by comparison to most animals, pretty flimsy creatures, yet we dream up ever faster and more dangerous ways to convey ourselves through space and time.

Bobbyg,

You aren’t thinking, we have all seen coyotes survive far worse than that. Remember? That’s when the road runner goes “beep beep”

Good one hNt!!

Ok…sure, I believe a car going 75mph and hitting a 65 lb. coyote and the coyote just curls up sweet as can be in the radiator. Why wouldn’t I believe that?? I mean I really do, not a problem! Geez…

I agree with you Bobby. Who hits an animal that big and doesn’t stop to check for damage to the car at least? According to the report they stopped twice for fuel? And didnt’ look? Who they think their fooling?

After all, any animal that can survive repeated drops from a tall cliff while holding on to an anvil (from Acme) has to be pretty tough.

no way… how do you fuel up at least twice an a long trip and not look at your car for damage after something like that?.. i know when we fuel up some one always goes to the rest room, it never fails… and then didnt have a look see… please.

curiosity, got the best of me. the original article says the couple who hit the coyote called wildlife rehabilitation and rescue. i googled them and they certainly appear to be a legitimate organization. here’s the link to the website: http://www.cawildlife911.org/. if you go to their newsletter, there’s an article about this same incident written by the woman who responded and freed the coyote. clink on the news and events tab and then click on page 2 of the newsletter. there’s a phone number for the organization listed as well. might be worth a call to see what they say.

The damage to the car is quite minimal considering what happened. I can see where they could have given it a look while getting gas and simply thought, “Doesn’t look too bad. I’ll clean that fur and stuff up when we get there.” By that time, they could safely assume that there was no major damage to the car because it hadn’t over heated and was apparently running and driving fine. Further examination would not be warranted by most folks.

The head on shots sure didn’t look like the whole critter was stuffed in there. The last thing I would think was that if I hit something that size, and that was not a large coyote, that it was going to survive.

It seems plausible to me and with Snopes backing up the story, I buy it.

True or not YOU try get the coyote to pose for pictures like those!!! 8)

A whole animal in the engine compartment is really not that uncommon. It’s the doing so with major engine damage is the amazing part although usually the animal doesn’t keep all his blood when it happens.

This reminded me of another one of these I saw I awhile back, and sure enough it’s still out there. Only at 160MPG on the autobahn, there isn’t much left.

THIS is what usually happens to the animal.

But they ONLY make those miraculous survivals against things that go, “beep-beep”.
I can’t see it not getting burned by the radiator after 8 hours of exposure.

Ed

I’d believe it survived the collision more than the fact they stuffed a coyote in the front of an Odyssey.
