The title surely got my attention. Got to wonder about those Scots.

Nice flies and pics.

It’s like us saying “bonk”.

Scott

I love the colors! Absolutely beautiful!

I am really liking them. Very nice

Absolute beauties! Thanks for sharing. How and where do you fish those?

Kelly.

Cheers lads. They are for loch/stillwater fishing for rainbows and browns over here. Can’t beat a dabbler in a nice wave.

First class. May the waves keep rollin!

What?

wot Oi found on a UK site:
The Dabbler has now spawned a whole series of flies from the original tied by Donald McLearn. I think it would be true to say that the Claret version is probably the most popular. There are no hard and fast rules with Dabblers, as they can be dressed in a variety of styles and fished in a variety of styles. The original purpose of the Dabbler however is in front of a drifting boat in a good wave.

The Doobry is a Stan Headly creation that favours bright days and peat stained water. It can also be useful on Sea Trout and Salmon lochs.

The Cruncher is a totally different animal. This is more nymph than wet fly. Again there is a vast array of variations and suitable ways to fish them. My experience has been that they are best on a floater or intermediate, twitched back slowly through a ripple.

Very nice, Greenock. Fiery Brown is a great color for attracting the fishies around here. Not much of a loch fisherman myself, but those are lovely dressings.

Cheers Ron fiery brown is a good colour here and in Ireland for catching trout. I should have put a bit of info up for the flies.

Basically they are flies i would use when theres a nice wave on the loch. Love fishing a dabbler in a wave when the rainbows are high up in the water and are up for chasing flies. Cast the dabbler down wind and pull it through the waves. The fish will hammer it when they see it or they will give chase you’ll see the wake behind the fly. The faster you pull the faster they give chase till they take it or you run out of line.

I’ve been looking on web sites at some American wet flies. Can anyone recommend a book on them??

Greenock,
Those are fantastic, if you get the time maybe you could submit the recipies for Fly of the Week

greenock,

Ray Bergman’s Trout is a classic. I am patiently waiting for Helen Shaw’s Flies for Fish and Fishermen to arrive on my doorstep. You can see some examples of flies from Shaw’s book at http://www.flyanglersonline.com/articles/oldflies/2010/oldflies20100201.php .

I must admit that most of my wet fly knowledge comes from Fogg, Wooley, Pritt, Skues and the like.

Dave Hughe’s Wet Flies is also a very nice book.

REE

Sylvester Nemes has also written several very excellent books on the subject.

Kelly.

Those flies are really nice and buggy looking. Can you post a pattern? In what sizes do you fish them?

What does “Bonk” mean in America? I’m past middle age so I’m not up on that word.

Bruce

Thanks for the suggestions everyone i’ll get looking into them.

Sure no problem someone can let me know who to contact?

Do you mean the recipe? Depending on the water and the size of the waves i would fish them in 8/10 or 12. I’ll write about it when i do the fly of the week.
