I enjoy carving topwater patterns for the bass here in Central Florida. Here are two more that work well for me. The top one I call Prop Job for obvious reasons. It creates a bit of disturbance which often draws reflext strikes from bass. THe bottom one I call a cigar popper because of the bulky body shape. The both have single inline hooks in the point up position to minimize snagging weeds.
Nice patterns. Ever catch crappie on them?
Just curious.

I don’s usually catch crappie on topwater patterns. I find that they mainly feed subsurface. One of the most effective patterns for crappie (and cool weather blugills) is the Carter’s Sculpin. I tye it with small dumbell eyes, a bit of black rabbit fur tail, black chenille body, some black crystel flash for the throat, and grizzly hackel collar. Not a difficuly pattern to tie and very effective. The best retrieve is to cast it out, let it sink for about 4-5 seconds, they do a quick 6" strip retrieve with a 2 second pause between strips.
GREAT bugs James!

Thank you for the kind words. I like to try different ideas when making patterns. Some work out well, others, not so much. Either way, it always fun and I learn something with each new pattern.
