I did a quick search in the archives on info for sliding ring reel seats and like the look of the Cortland. Can’t find a source, anyone know of one? Want to use it on a bamboo banty I plan to assemble from a 9’ #5 with a broken butt section, give it a second lease on life.

The whole thing will be about $26.00 and he does offer the wood fillers although his site says not yet, great guy to deal with. The only other thing you would need would be a butt cap, it comes with an aluminum piece, but I would go to [url=http://www.goldenwitch.com:aa311]www.goldenwitch.com[/url:aa311] and get either a round or hex, hex will take some working to get into the round hole, I just sanded down the edge until it fit flush. You will need to sand the filler and finish it. I just rubbed a couple of coats of varnish into it, came out very nice. Any questions feel free to contact me.

building a banty suggest a very light reel seat and for building some of those, I have had really good success using the cork inserts with nickel silver hardware. there are many of them available on the market to fill the void left by Cortland when they stopped making them. I have found some nice ones with MRFC in Montana (http://www.mrfc.com.), for around $10 each, and if I want a little more “classiness” in the hardware, I go with the PLRN available at REC (WWW.REC.com)for $33.00. This keeps that banty nice and light and gives it a nice look at the same time…
