cork reel seat

New request from Cary for the “next” rod I build for him … he wants a cork reel seat with single sliding ring to a down locking end cap. I’ve seen double ring cork seats, I’ve seen single rings to DL caps with a wood spacer, but not the configuration he wants. Any ideas where I could come up with what he wants? <and you wonder why my hair is going quickly gray??>

I don’t know if you want a completed seat or want to make your own. Here are a couple options to make your own insert and use hardware:

Here’s the cork seat with single downlocking ring on my Dan Craft 1wt (please excuse the little bluegill that got in the way)

Here it is before I wrapped the rod. The butt cap and sliding ring are cylyndrical, with a flat sanded on the reel seat for the foot.

The cork reel seat, grip and titanium hardware including the spacer and winding check were made by Mark Shamburg in Colorado. You can see some of the titanium hardware he makes at http://www.rodbuildingforum.com/index.php?showtopic=16862 . I believe he will do special orders if you contact him via the website link.

Shamburg- a titanium genius machinist/designer. My dream rod is a Gatti blank, Shamburg hidden thread hardware, amboyna insert and for the grip/handle-black horn tip and rear (maybe on the horn).

I know I’ve used them in the past. Can’t remember where I bought them - probably Clemens. If I can figure it out I’ll post again.

Just checked my log book. The last one I bought was from Custom Tackle Supply in 1996. A nickel silver sliding ring and pocket cap. The cork part I made myself as part of the grip, Garrison style.
