Copper wire bodies

Somewhere I recently saw a recipe for a fly that had it’s body (abdomen) consisting of only copper wire. I’m not speaking of fine wire used as a ribbing but of heavier wire used alone to show segmentation.
Now I can’t remember where I saw it. Can anyone help?

Maybe here? [url=http://flytyingworld.com/PagesL/lw-coperjohn.htm:408cb]http://flytyingworld.com/PagesL/lw-coperjohn.htm[/url:408cb]

Ray, The copper john has a copper abdomen as the body, as does the brassie.
Should be here on FAOL

Ray,

I recently saw an article where people are using some of the colored wire available to tie soft hackle bodies. Think of them as weighted soft hackles.

Ray, Probably not what you are looking for, but this steel san juan worm has been a good producer recently.

copper john works awsome, have a bunch in my box. I dont put the exopy and the wing case in fact i just use some flashabou as the wingcase, and that is it. Also use black peacock ice dubbing. Cuaght some biggins on it.

Sounds like a Brassie to me (copper abdomen, peacock hurl thorax). Although, could be a light or dark “alexander”, which is similar to a “Brassie” but the thorax is dubbed fur with a wingcase (turkey), and a tail of hackle fibers. The “dark/light” versions use darker/lighter versions of the same materials. Note, this should not be confused with the Alexadria, which is a nice wet fly.

Paul, could you post the recipe for the San Juan Steel Worm? Especially the sizes that are working. Thanks,
