Copper Still March Brown SBS

More goodness from Appalachia. Original called for ginger variant hackle tips for the wings - best of luck finding that. I dyed some grizzly hen; don’t think the fish will care.

hook - Dai Riki 320 #14
thread - MFC 8/0 brown
tail - ginger hackle
rib - x-small wire copper
abdomen - Uni-stretch camel
wing - hen hackle tips grizzly-dyed tan
hackle - grizzly/ginger

Part 1

Mash down barb, start thread at 75% mark; wrap back to point above barb and make a small bump

clip, stack and measure (shank) a clump of ginger hackle fibers; tie in tight against the thread bump to get the proper splay/cant

tie in rib; return thread to 75% mark

prep wings (convex-to-convex)

measure (hook eye to bend), tie in, trim

Part 2

tie in Uni-stretch, wrap body; tie off/trim

counter-wrap rib; helicopter end

puul back wings, set angle with thread wraps in front

tie in hackle in front of wings

wrap hackle, tie off, trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN

Like the pattern alot. Nicely done Scott.

I’m thinking a furnace quill for the rib (dark tip, to light)…for the sake of weight? But then that would remove the copper from the pattern.

Ralph

Ralph,

I cut way back on thread wraps to compensate for the weight of the wire, and maintain the integrity of the pattern’s name.
Kidding aside, swapping out the wire for something else (Midge Krystal Flash would be my choice) would work fine.

Scott

Scott, understand completely. I figured you were sticking to the pattern.
