Congratulations Philladelphia Phillies and fans...

…on winning the 2008 World Series. You have no idea how hard it is for a lifetime Pirates fan to say that.

Tampa Bay fans you have a lot to be proud of too in your young team that will be back again.

I’m from SW Pa as well. Considering the Pirates, I’m just happy to see a Pa team win it. Brought back ALOT of memories as was 12yrs old in 1980 and got a ticket to one of the games- saw Tug McGraw in action. It was FANTASTIC to see the Phils do it again.

I just got in as one of my co-workers called me as I was on my way home. His battery was dead, so I went back & got him jump started, so I missed the game. I LOVE Series where the teams are either 1st timers or teams that haven’t won in awhile, & am a fan of Charlie Manual…he was in Cleveland at one time & is just a truly nice “good ol’ boy”. He loves fly fishing too! Glad to see Charlie rise to the top.
Congrats to the Phillies, & kudos to the Rays on a fine run.
Mike

As a lifelong Yankees fan and American League rooter I was rooting for the Rays. Besides Hazleton is a lot closer to me than Philly but…

…as a phormer Philadelphian who was BORN in Philadelphia I had more than a few family members busting my…uh…um…CHOPS!

In any case the bad news is my team lost; the good news is I bet my kid brother a steak dinner on the outcome and any time steak is involved, I consider myself a winner even if I have to pay!

Morton’s here we come!!

Congrats Phillies fans!

I was glad to Jamie Moyer get a championship. He pitched in Seattle for many years and is a class act.

I’m with Kerry on this one. Glad to see Jamie get it. He is one of the best guys in baseball and in the Seattle community.

My only regret is that the season is over. Time to tie flies until April!!

Jeff

Pirate fan here too. Uh, um, uh, buh, con,…congratulations!
There I said it. No I don’t feel any better

this Washington Nationals fan also will hold her breath and close her eyes and say

WAY TO GO PHILLIES!![COLOR=Black]

there. i don’t feel better, but the occasion has been marked in suitable fashion.

Yea congrats to Jamie who is a homie and grew up right down the road from me.

HHHAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!! Enjoy it while ye can Phillies fans. Next year me Buccaneers will make ye walk the plank!:stuck_out_tongue:

Bamb, you know I’ve never doubted you, and I still think you’re the smartest fly fisherman I’ve ever met, but a little “re-education” is in order here. YANKEES!!!???

FYI - According to AAA, Philly is 5 minutes further away from us than Hazleton. To make up for your transgressions, I think you should have CHEESESTEAKS for dinner. In fact, I’ll buy at the Brass Rail if you’d like to start your rehab from the dreaded “Yankee’s disease”.

Morton’s? Never been there - how’s the steaks compared to Gregory’s? …Ed

With all the transplants in the Valley, Poconos and the Slate Belt not to mention a historically strong Yankee fandom in Lackawanna County we may be outnumbering Phillies fans soon although WE have nothing to celebrate. :frowning:

Despite living within eyeshot of Billy Penn’s hat for most of my “yoot”; I never became a Philly Cheesesteak fan. If I was to start a rehab it would be at Tony Luke’s on Oregon Ave eating a roast pork sandwich; which SHOULD be Philadelphia’s contribution to gastronomy along with Federal Bakery soft pretzels and John’s Water Ice.

BTW - Morton’s is a Prime Steakhouse similar to Ruth’s Chris but better IMHO. The closest one is in K of P which is also closer to me than Philly! While I ain’t knocking Gregory’s or anybody’s steak preference, for me it’s all about the grade of beef served. I’m a USDA prime junkie and the only place locally that serves it is the Orchard Meat & Fish Company in Orefield. (No Shula’s DOESN’T serve USDA Prime beef if you were wondering)

Congrats again Phillies fans; enjoy your parade!

It was a heck of a parade and party in the old city today. They’re thinking over 2 mil people. Conservative was 1+ mil and if you look at the news that does look conservative.

Don’t hold yer breath walkin’ off that plank nighthawk. I’d love to see the Bucco’s do something, and Tampa Bay is evidence that they could with the right strategy/management…but they’ll wrap the losingest streak in history.

I was hoping it would last a bit longer. I liked both teams, but neither one was my what I’d call one of my favorite. When the Rays got behind (I love underdogs), I started rooting for them… to no avail unfortunately.

Great job Phillies! You certainly deserve it.

Anybody but the Yankees!!! (sorry Heritage Angler)

This works for me, but I’d also like to add the Mets, or as we call them, the Mutts. Here in the Philly area, we despise the New York teams. Carry on…

Many years ago I watched the Phillies vs. their farm team, the Portland Beavers (Mike Schmidt & Pete Rose) and I will never forget Pete hustling out to his position. Congratulations Phillies!!
Doug

Oh, now I get it. I misunderstood your previous posting… I didn’t really notice the ‘barfing’ smiley face icon.

OK, so you don’t like the Yankees… we can be buddies then. Well, we could either way, but not liking the Yankees automatically gives us something in common.

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!! Just beat 'em aire Phillies me bucco’s fan. Send 'em down to Davey Jones Locker!

Lifelong Yankee fan here too - - hey I was born in NYC and have the right. But now since I live in the Philly area a win by the Phillies is the next best thing. My kids, who grew up here, were really excited. It was fun to watch.

But what is it with MLB??? A game suspended for rain long after it should have been… and the rules clearly say that after 5 innings of play the game is official… Oh well, the Phillies won anyway and there was more DRAMA and revenue produced.
