Congratulations New York Giants!

Winners of Super Bowl XLVI (46). That was a great game! Right down to the last play of the game. Only problem, as usual, was the performing of the National Anthem. Blaach, fooey!

Although I am a Patriots fan, The QB for NY did a great job. NE just made to many mistakes, especially in the last 2 minutes.

Eric,
The two things I refuse to watch during the Super Bowl…

  1. The murdering of our National Anthem.
  2. The halftime show…MADONNA???

It was a great game & congrats to the Giants.
Mike

mumble grumble blahblahblah. good food. woulda won the pool if…

I beg to differ on the singing of the National Anthem; I thought Kelly Clarkson and the youth choral group did about as good of a job as I have heard lately. That said, the thing they should do is rotate the honor between the choral groups of the different service academies. Very enjoyable football game, although Archie and Eli attended “the other college” in MS, I am a Manning family fan. Archie & Olivia raised some classy kids, who are pretty good football players.

Armed Forces Academy Choirs and how it should be done:

I realize that Kelly has the right to freelance the anthem since it is public domain. However I also have the right to mash the mute button which I swiftly mashed. Would have been better if just the children had sung it. Normally one can tell within the first few lines of the first verse what type of performance it will be and last night’s game was no exception.

Perhaps the better way to do it is to eliminated the vocalists all together and turn the duty over to one of the Armed Forces bands on a rotating basis.

You certainly have the right to mute anything you wish. Having the Nation Anthem sung by someone who as committed to spent several years serving the country gives it added mention. Although not part of the song, the fly over following the song adds so much to the event, a second row of chills up the back. Enclosed stadiums suck from that standpoint.

The terrible truth is I should have missed the beginning of the game, because I should have been on my way home from fishing at that time.

I agree with you about the fly overs and the enclosed stadiums. Football is an outdoor sport that should be played in the elements. Nice to have the U.S. Army Parachute Team (Golden Knights) jump the flag into the stadium from above too.

Sorry you missed out on your fishing trip. I know that feeling well and it stinks.

When I saw who was doing the halftime show I decided that was a good time for a nap. What happened to having local college bands perform the halftime entertainment?

What Mike said…

Ed

Oh, so that was Kelly Clarkson. She should stick to Idol because she certainly butchered our National Anthem. However, I blame the tv execs who hired her and similar singers who feel compelled to do something different and put their ‘individuality’ on the Anthem.

Question: What are the players doing inbetween the plays when there’s 5 minutes of commercials?

Allan

Allan,
I not only thought about the same thing, and I’m no Doctor, but could those long “official time outs” for commercials possibly lead to increased injury due to cramping & getting stiff after working up a sweat? Just a thought.
Mike

That was awesome but, who were the two bozos in blue blazers

I saw a link that lead me to investigate further, Las Vegas had odds up to 75 to 1 (with some betting services giving up to 1,025 to 1) the first score would be a safety. It is reported on guy had a $200 on that happening.

Nice $15,000.00 payday before Uncle Sam gets his cut!

Yeah no way I wan to stand around that long. The body starts to cool down and tighten up fast. I also think it would add the to the cramping and injuries.

Contrary to the prevailing theme, I, a stand up and salute kinda dude actually thought that Kelly’s performance was excellent. I also applaud the unusually respectful crowd which kept reasonably quiet till the end of the anthem.
Madonna, although not my cuppa, performed very well but for much younger audience than me. Had she performed a version of " How much is that doggie in the window" perhaps we older dudes would have commented favorably. BUT, remember, she’s 53 and one heck of a ( again, NOT my cuppa) performer. Credit where credit…

Mark

Mark, I was beginning to think I was the only one who thought Kelly and the kids did a good job. The reviews in the paper was good on her performance also. I had the game on the DVR and fast forward through the half time show. Being a old f*rt, I will have to admit to liking the Pepsi commercial with Elton John. Now I wish I had not thought about that, got “Rocket Man” stuck in my head.
