Congo Hair Substutute

I noticed that Congo Hair is used in a number of patterns in this Forum.

Is there a substitute for it?

Thanks for your help.

Gordon

Gordon,

It’s a polypropylene yarn; lots of flyshops sell poly yarn on cards (but they don’t have the color selection CH does, if that matters to you). EP fibers are pretty much the same; just cost a whole lot more.

Scott

ps - CH is readily available from Flytyer’s Dungeon

Hi Scott.

Thank you for the information about the Congo Hair substitute.

I will try out our local shop and see if they stock the EP fibers.
I have never used this material and I’m curious to see the final results.

mrgramps,.

The Puglisi material for dry patterns ( abdomens, wings, tufts etc…) is Trigger Point International Fibers. Like Polypro Yarn, it floats, but is much finer. It comes in a wide range of colors:

Isn’t Congo Hair the “mad scientist’s” answer to widow’s web? Which is a MFC product, maybe harder to find.

I think they’re all variations of the same material. I’ll take the pain of dealing with the Dungeon for the cost savings.
