My computer crashed over the weekend. I’m back up now, but lost EVERYTHING, including all email addresses & saved emails. If I haven’t responded to any emails lately, that’s why. If you had recently emailed me & received no response, please email again.

Hey Mike,
Same thing happened to me a while back. Lost power and the shock of the quick shut down corrupted a file in my Windows operating system. The system would not load Windows. Had to dump and reload everything. Took weeks to restore most everything. Lots of download time.

Just a suggestion…an external drive for backup…also a good place to store all the good stuff from FAOL
"tuber;
I sent you and email to help get me back in your files. Dosn’t hurt to make a hard copy back up every so often. A crash is a hard thing to deal with!!
For me; I always keep a ‘backup’ hard drive around with my OS installed. Then I can drop it in and put the old hard drive in as a secondary (D: drive) and pull off the files I need before starting over. An external back-up drive is also a good option. Just make sure you use it regularly.

Emails and address books are the WORST things to lose, eh? I work from home, so my whole life is stored on my computer. I back my email up weekly and burn to CD. If you don’t know how to do this, reply with info on what email software you use, and I’ll post here on how to back up your email – it’s easy, unless you use a very old version of Outbreak (I mean, Outlook ;~)

Danbob…I hate to take up space here but there is no email address in your profile.
I use OE 6 and would like to back it up to an external harddrive…found some good info on transferring using the Transfer Wizard in XP [I use home]…however after deleting everything to transfer except the OE files…it transfers the folder but the folder ends up with something to do with Nero in it but no emails or address book…any ideas?
Duckster, I suspect any external hard drive you get will come with file transfer software that will automate your backups. Mine did. I set it to do an incremental back up nightly of the my documents and e-mail folders.
OE 6 does not make it very easy to backup, and every time I tried it there were weird problems restoring it.
So I recommend, after you are all recovered, pick up OE quickbackup, it’s free: [url=http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/oebackup.html:0b9eb]http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/oebackup.html[/url:0b9eb]
It worked for me. But I highly recommend switching to the Firefox browser and/or Thunderbird email program. But for some folks, switching browsers and email is REALLY irritating.
