Compara Wing

Hi,

I presume others have come up with this pattern, but I have not seen it myself. It is a comparadun with the middle cut out of the wing (leaving the outriggers) and a zelon wing replacing it. I think it might have more of a mayfly sillouhette.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Byron

I haven’t seen a fly like this, but I think you might be on to something. I like the more natural looking triangular, over the body wing profile and it’s still a low floating, body in the film fly design. There are a couple of flies I use regularly that offer somewhat similar characteristics and are part my regular mayfly arsenal. The first is Harrop’s Hairwing Dun and the other is Ross Mueller’s Fuzzball.

thats a nice fly Byron

Very interesting Byron !!!

First, let me say I like the fly.

Second, you’ve kind of recreated the Iwamasa Dun - something I’ve been playing with lately.

Short deer hair is tied in a la the Comparadun. Then split into two halves with figure-8 wraps to split the deer hair in to outrigger-like legs. Then, just in front of the deer hair legs and right behind the eye, a single burned wing is tied in.
