Some time back there was a reguest for a fly that would catch yellow perch. I have been quite successful with the Colorado Caddis. In adition to perch, I have caught browns, rainbows, brookies, LMB, SMB, Crappie and sunfish on this fly. Below is a link to a poor picture (sorry) of my version of the caddis. The goose back is a slate gray color and the legs are a dark reddish brown in case your supply of waterfowl feathers is lacking.
Years ago when I started fishing the Deschutes…one of the popular flies was a “Tieddown Caddis” …it looked essentially like yours only the shellback was deer hair [or elk]…meant to be fished dry but it was hard to keep afloat.
I had a bunch but quite using them and when I started to tie I got looking at them…the ones I had looked like the hook actually was a nymph hook…still wanting to use them dry I simply tied on a calf tail wing…it really helped the floatability and they were quite effective…used them all up
